2025 NAR Midyear Legislative Meetings in Washington DC Report

At its June 5 meeting, the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors approved significant updates impacting members nationwide. Key actions include adopting a 2026 budget that maintains current dues levels, keeping them at $156, and reallocating $35 of the Consumer Advertising Campaign assessment to operational funds. This decision allows NAR to fulfill upcoming settlement obligations without increasing overall dues.

The Board clarified the Code of Ethics, specifically Standard of Practice 10-5, emphasizing the prohibition of harassment based on protected categories in real estate contexts. Further amendments to professional standards were made to align with NAR’s 2024 settlement terms, strengthening fair and consistent enforcement of ethical guidelines at the state and local levels.

Leadership elections were confirmed, with Christine Hansen of Florida elected 2026 President-Elect, and Colin Mullane of Oregon as First Vice President. Additionally, revisions to officer qualifications and the inclusion of dedicated commercial representation on the Executive Committee were approved.

Additionally, President Trump shared a message with the National Association, stressing their importance for helping homeowners achieve the American dream and supporting advocacy efforts. The video recording is below, shared with IR by NAR Director Patrick Malone

Idaho REALTORS® Advocate on Capitol Hill

Idaho REALTORS® took their advocacy directly to Capitol Hill during the 2025 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings. Members met with Idaho’s Congressional delegation—including Congressman Russ Fulcher, Senator Jim Risch, and staff members from Congressman Mike Simpson’s and Senator Mike Crapo’s offices—to share REALTOR® perspectives on critical policy issues.

Hill visits are a valuable opportunity for REALTORS® to communicate directly with policymakers, emphasizing the importance of private property rights, homeownership accessibility, and real estate’s vital role in Idaho’s economy and communities. Face-to-face conversations help build lasting relationships with legislators and ensure REALTOR® voices influence future policy decisions.

We sincerely thank our elected officials and their staff for their openness and engagement during these important discussions.

Advocacy Update: Lava Hot Springs

Idaho REALTORS® achieved a significant advocacy victory at the Idaho Supreme Court, overturning Lava Hot Springs' restrictive short-term rental ordinance. The unanimous decision declared the ordinance, which limited short-term rentals to commercial zones, unlawful under Idaho state law.

This landmark ruling emphasizes that overly restrictive zoning disguised as regulation violates property rights protections. The Supreme Court’s decision underscores the critical role REALTOR® advocacy plays in safeguarding private property rights throughout Idaho.

Thank you to all members whose support and involvement contributed directly to this success. For further details, visit the Idaho REALTORS® website to read the full Supreme Court opinion and summary.
