The United States celebrates being an independent nation every July 4. Since we have been independent for over 240 years, we citizens are a little casual about our nation’s self-governing state, so we celebrate in other ways such as parades, fireworks, concerts, barbeques, picnics, fairs, and festivals that take place on this day. Many places don’t even celebrate on the actual day, but the happy entertainment values usually create a really fun time in most communities, including ours. This is good for us, a time for relaxing and forgetting about stress and enjoying the sunshine. Here are a couple of fun facts about July 4 and United States history:

Approximately 150 million hot dogs and 700 million pounds of chicken are consumed on July 4. Coney Island has a hot dog eating contest and last year the winner ate 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes! We suggest you slow down and enjoy your meal 😊
Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as the national bird but was overruled by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who recommended the bald eagle. Turkey has its own holiday already!

However you celebrate, we hope you get to enjoy your friends and family and come together with your community and appreciate your freedom to assemble and have fun!
