Greetings!!
Happy New Year and welcome back! After a bit of break in 2020, CARE is back into the swing of things.
In November 2020, Billie Pierce joined our CARE team as administrative support. Billie brings 25 years of experience working with UT, and we are so pleased to have her. Welcome Billie!
Dee Wallace Donovan, PhD, CCRP, also returned to our CARE team as project coordinator after a medical leave in 2020. Dee supports CARE in working with Linda and James for CARE planning and management, providing insight from her 20 years in neuroscience research, consulting and project management. Welcome back Dee!
James Sulzer is also now back from medical leave following his daughter Livie's accident. James and his family deeply appreciate the support from CARE members, especially the clinicians in CARE who treated Livie! She continues to improve and you can follow her progress on Caring Bridge.
This month, we will have Dimitry Sayenko, MD, PhD from Houston Methodist as our CARE seminar series speaker, presenting his work on electrical stimulation for motor recovery after spinal cord injury. See below for more details.

Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy Robotics Internship Programs
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) Robotics Internship Program is a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in a field related to robotics. The program provides opportunities for high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students and postgraduates to intern at federal national laboratories throughout the United States.

The Psychosocial Research (PSR) portfolio supports research that addresses the interrelation of behavioral, social, psychological and other quality of life factors that will benefit people living with spinal cord injury. Areas of interest include: aging, caregiving, employment, health behaviors and fitness, independent living, self-management and technology access.
3/3/21: Letter of Intent closes for 2022 cycle
The Spinal Cord Injury Research on the Translational Spectrum (SCIRTS) portfolio supports research to improve the understanding of traumatic spinal cord injury and develop new approaches to alleviate the dysfunction and complications that follow. The scope of this portfolio is broad, encompassing mechanistic, preclinical modeling, translational and/or clinical research.
