Rehabilitation Roundup for January 2018
Greetings!

We're starting the New Year off right, with our first CARE meeting on 1/19 now at 2pm (due to popular demand) and in a new venue, the brand new EER building, room EER 1.504, where we have two very interesting talks, one by Travis Vlantes who will discuss UT Athletics' research interest, and Lei Liew, Ph.D., O.T. from USC who is using EEG and virtual reality in rehab (starting at 3pm).
Best,

James Sulzer
Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering

CARE Talks
Travis Vlantes, MS, CSCS
Travis is the Director of Applied Sports Sciences at the UT Athletic Department and will be discussing the issues they would like to address and perhaps form collaborations.

Announcements
Multimodal Neuroimaging Initiative
The MNI is proud to announce its new leader, Dr. Ben Zinszer. Dr. Zinszer received his PhD in Psychology at Penn State University, studying cross-language interaction in Chinese-English bilinguals. His current work uses fNIRS, fMRI, and EEG to explore word and category representations and their development in language learners. Ben recently published neural decoding tools for infant and adult fNIRS with his colleagues on TeamMCPA and is expanding this work here at the Multimodal Neuroimaging Initiative.
Clinical Motor Control conference at Penn State
The first Clinical Motor Control Conference to be held at Penn State from July 23-25, 2018. John Dingwell (former UT faculty) is one of the speakers.
CARE Research Day 2018
Save the Date: 4/13/18
EERC Mulva Auditorium
We've selected a date! We'll host the 3rd Annual CARE Research Day on the afternoon of Friday, April 13th, 2018. Our keynote speaker is Andy Hoffer, Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University. Dr. Hoffer's research involves neural interfaces using nerve cuff electrodes.

CARE Research day is a half-day symposium composed of a single keynote followed by a three hour poster session featuring CARE research from UT Austin and other institutions around Texas. The goal is to provide a forum for communication and encourage collaborations.

• TREAT Pilot Grants: Abstract due, 12 Feb 2018, Proposal due 1 March 2018.
TREAT has a two-phase application procedure for pilot grants. Abstracts are reviewed on a revolving basis to determine if the product falls within TREAT‘s expertise and mission. If accepted, applicants are then asked to complete a more comprehensive proposal that will be assessed by a multidisciplinary panel of technical, business, and clinical experts during one of our triannual review sessions. • PA-18-343 “Academic Research Enhancement Award (R15 – Clinical Trial Required)”
Applicants who wish to seek R15 (AREA grant) support from NICHD for research involving a clinical trial in one of NICHD’s priority topics should use this FOA if their research project is not relevant to another active FOA in which NICHD participates. This is a joint FOA with NIDCD, NIBIB, and NIMH, and applications must involve a clinical trial in order to be eligible for this FOA. R15 applications for non-trial research may be submitted to the new “parent” R15 FOA which will not allow clinical trials.
