Daria, Schetz, et al. "Lack of beneficial effect of planned treatment interruption in adults with ADHD treated with methylphenidate-clinical evidence." Psychiatry Research, Aug. 2026, pp. 117409.

Comment by Doron Almagor, MD, FRCPC: The authors conclude that planned weekend discontinuation should not be assumed to improve treatment quality in adults on stable MPH. This is a useful counterweight to the common clinical habit of "medication holidays," and worth discussion on our forums, especially given how often adult patients ask for weekend breaks for appetite, sleep, or perceived tolerance.
