January 2021
Greetings!

New whiskers, new wagging tails, and new opportunities to leave paw prints moving forward. 2021 is here, and it is one everyone can make memorable. We at the RISPCA are feeling energized for the mission work ahead. Within the Ocean State, there are individuals, homes, and communities that call out for us to 'speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.' With this address, we have the critical life-saving programs and means to prevent cruelty to all animals. Looking ahead, we cannot do this without your voice and heart too. Together, everyone can welcome more love, courage, and positive reinforcing pet treats throughout Rhode Island.

It brings great honor to introduce you to our first newsletter of the year. Within, we will share exciting updates on the initiatives taken together to brighten the holidays for all of our four-legged friends. Such mentions will include the Lite Rock 105 12 Strays of Christmas, our Pet Food Assistance Program, our partnered community donation drives, happy tails, and more. With this new year, we're going to make an even more colossal impact and have more fun while doing it too. We wish you all a very merry new year!

With Gratitude,

Pawsitively Thankful For You!
The generosity has been inspiring! This holiday season has shown us at the RI SPCA how much Rhode Island loves their animals. Every cent, donated item, social media share, and more make the difference through and through. We're especially thankful for the generosity of our youngest supporters (as pictured here)! Without your actions and thoughts, we could not transform the lives of all animals across our state.

With sincere gratitude from all of us at the Rhode Island SPCA, thank you!

Collective Community Effort!
We’d like to thank the WaterFire Arts Center, Rumford Pet Center, Seabra Foods Rhode Island, Whimsies, The Coffee Depot and The Lobster Pot for hosting donation drives in December! Thanks to their generosity, we now have lots of toys, treats and food for our shelter animals!

We’d also like to thank local Barrington High School senior Emily Medizza for choosing the RISPCA for her senior project and for coordinating the donation drive from head to tail. You’re amazing Emily and we appreciate your passion and compassion for the animals!

#Home For The Holidays!
Our “12 Strays of Christmas” adoption promotion was once again a great success thanks to long-time partnership with Lite Rock 105 and Rumford Pet Center! For 12 days in December, Lite Rock 105 put the focus on adoption and featured one adoptable animal each day. This helped spread the word about many deserving animals and helped them find their way home for the holidays including Sylvester, Yoda, Momma, Roxie (pictured here) and Zeus & Hades!

A Helping Hand in Times of Need
For the month of December, we helped 97 animals in 36 homes that had on average, three four-legged friends. Wow! This couldn’t be done without your help. Our Pet Food Assistance program gives food to those struggling to provide the necessary essentials for their pets. This program is all donation driven, and it relies on your generosity to continue. If you would like to help, please consider donating unexpired and unopened pet food to the RISPCA today...Learn more

Marvin Fund ~ Healing Lives
The Marvin Fund provides direct financial assistance for necessary veterinary care to low income pet owners and has assisted thousands of family pets since its inception in 2010. It was founded by the RISPCA’s beloved President Emeritus, Dr. Finocchio who sadly passed in October last year and named after Marvin, the disabled black Labrador Retriever he adopted who became a celebrity in his own right. Mohinder and Shanti are in our "Best Buddies" Program so their adoption will be a two for one adoption fee! If interested in adopting, please contact Cathy, our Cat Program Manager at cathy@rispca.com.

Take Me Home!
Happy Tails ~ Dickens!
Do you remember Dickens? He is one of THIRTY THREE animals adopted in December!

Dickens was with us for a while because he was completely shut down and difficult to approach. Over time, he finally started to come around but we knew he needed someone special who would be understanding and patient. He found that “someone” and here he is in his new home. We’re told “he is goofy and working on affection in his own way. Although he does not like to be pet and jumps at all noises. He loves rubbing up on their legs and enjoys exploring the apartment. She was definitely the right match for Dickens!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who chose to adopt at the Rhode Island SPCA this month! We'd love to hear from you! Send your happy tails & pics to kjewell@rispca.com.
Celebrating 150 years of
"speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves"
1870 ~ 2020

Founded in 1870, the Rhode Island SPCA is not only the oldest humane organization in the state of Rhode Island but the third oldest in the United States. 2020 marks our 150th anniversary of providing critical programs and services for the animals and people in our community. As a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations and are not affiliated with any national humane organization.
