October 2020
Greetings!
I am pleased to share that our 18th annual “Virtual” Paws in the Park Dog Walk was a huge success!

Thanks to our sponsors, donors, fundraisers and the dedicated Rhode Island SPCA Development and Marketing team, we raised $27,082.87 which is 90% of our fundraising goal! All of the money raised will go towards supporting the critical programs and services offered by the Rhode Island SPCA. I want to personally thank everyone who contributed to the success of this event and please know that your generosity and support does not go unrecognized.

A special thanks to JDI Productions for their time and expertise in the production of our livestream event, and also a special thanks to the Rhode Island State Police K9 Division for allowing us to highlight the amazing work they do in keeping our communities safe.

This year has been my first full year as the President of the Rhode Island SPCA, and while our 150th anniversary year was not quite what I had envisioned, due to the COVID-91 pandemic, the Society has adapted to the times and has overcome great obstacles to continue our mission. This is, of course, not the first time the Society has experienced economic, health and social challenges in their 150-year history, but just as we have done in the past we will continue to persevere and adapt to the challenges along the way.

Our past and present success would not be possible without community support. Whether it be in the form of a monetary donation, or simply donating your time to become part of our volunteer or foster community, it all contributes to the overall success and longevity of what has become the oldest humane organization in the State of Rhode.

In closing, I want to extend one last thank you, on behalf of the Rhode Island SPCA and I look forward to building our future with all of you.
Sincerely,
Joe Warzycha

New Partnership with the
New England Equine Relief Network
The devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic can have a tremendous financial impact on horses and farm animals, which are often the first species to suffer during times of economic crisis due to their size and cost of care.

To proactively respond to the crisis, we are excited to partner with our friends at the New Hampshire SPCA, MSPCA at Nevins Farm and the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in forming the New England Equine Relief Network. Together, we hope to keep horse and farm animals with their people, who may be experiencing a temporary period of financial insecurity or family crisis.

“The history of the Rhode Island SPCA is deeply rooted in the fight against animal cruelty, and our mission began in 1870 when a small group of people came together to specifically address the cruel treatment of cart horses. I am proud to say that 150 years later, we are still advocating for and protecting animals of all species. We are fortunate to have resources, in the form of food and veterinary care, solely dedicated to providing assistance to equines and other species of livestock. Just like the variety of other programs and services we offer, we need your support to keep them running.” ~ Rhode Island SPCA President and Special Agent, Joe Warzycha

If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out. Qualifying owners may request assistance with short term support for feed, hay, veterinary and farrier care. By sharing resources, looking out for our neighbors and creatively supporting our communities along the way, we can lessen the impact of these challenging times on animals of all species.

It's a WRAP!
Our first ever Virtual Paws In The Park event has ended, and I have to admit it was a lot of fun!

For 7 weeks we hosted online challenges along with AmbassaDOG 2020 Willow and her mom Melissa, encouraging our followers to post fun videos, raise funds for cool prizes and earn their way to amazing raffle winnings. And to bring it all together, on Saturday, September 26th we hosted an hour long Live Stream event produced by JDI Productions.
We want to express a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated, raised funds, donated, shared our posts and watched our Live Stream! It is because of all of you that Paws in the Park has come so close to its $30,000 goal! As of today you have helped us raise $27,082.87 which is 90% of our goal! Although fundraising closes on Friday, October 2nd at 11 PM, you can still purchase cool Paws in the Park & Rhode Island SPCA Celebrate 150 swag until October 31st (unless we run out sooner!) and your purchase goes towards our goal for the event!

SNE Loves Pets Campaign
#SNELovesPets campaign kicks off TODAY and the Rhode Island SPCA is one of 12 participating New England animal welfare organizations!

We have the opportunity to receive a $5,000 donation from Subaru of New England but we cannot do it without your help!

Whether they’re furry, scaly, feathered, or slimy – post a photo of your best animal friend on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #SNELovesPets and #TeamRISPCA during the month of October, and they’ll donate $5 toward the goal!

What's the goal you ask? The goal is to receive 12,000 (or more!) unique photos (one per pet), enabling each 12 animal organization to receive $5,000 for a collective goal of $60,000!
