Dear Residents & Community Members,

As we prepare to welcome October, we hope this update finds you well and enjoying the beautiful weather and abundance of Autumn activities. Many will agree that there is no place quite like the Hudson Valley this time of year. There are several community events coming up in October which are included in this month's update. As always, the Orange County Tourism website is a great resource to find out about local happenings and spur of the moment "things to do."  

Although delayed because of the pandemic, we recently had the honor of officially dedicating our Town Hall building with the unveiling of a plaque located outside the upper level Meeting Room. We are fortunate to have a wonderful working space, a beautiful Courtroom and a versatile Meeting Room which not only allows for our Town meetings, but has also provided a meeting space at times for our neighboring municipalities. By centralizing our town operations, we continue to seek ways to best serve our residents. If you haven't had a chance to visit Town Hall in the past few years, please stop in.   We'd be happy to show you around!

Town Hall employees gathered with Supervisor Cardone and both current and former Councilpersons to officially dedicate the Town Hall Building.

Supervisor Cardone along with County Executive Steve Neuhaus had the honor of wishing Town of Monroe resident, Vinnie Marino a very Happy 100th Birthday!  Vinnie is a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  We thank Vinnie for his service and wish him all the best in celebrating this special occasion!

Smith's Clove Park Playground Dedicated in Honor of Joe Mancuso on his Retirement

Several former and current Monroe Joint Park and Recreation Commission members gathered to celebrate the playground dedication.

Coming Soon:  Pickleball at Mombasha Park!

Work has officially begun on the construction of (3) Pickleball Courts at Mombasha Park. The area for the courts was recently marked out and ground breaking will be happening next week. Stay tuned for updates and in the meantime, get your paddle and ball ready!

Bill Dimmit Recognized By Orange County As September's Citizen of the Month

Monroe resident Bill Dimmit has been named Orange County Citizen of the Month for September. For the past 13 years, Bill has volunteered his time taking pictures of Monroe-Woodbury athletic competitions, sharing his photography with the high school, athletes and their families, all free of charge. Throughout the years, Bill has captured countless milestones and accomplishments and has selflessly given his time. Thank you for making an impact, Bill!

Town of Monroe Compost Facility Scheduled to Reopen October 29th

The Town of Monroe Compost Facility will be open this Fall on the following dates:

Saturdays: October 29th, November 5th, November 12th, November 19th from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Wednesdays: November 2nd, November 9th, November 16th from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. The facility will close after November 19th and reopen again in the Spring.

The Compost Facility is located on Lakes Road and is open to all Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe and Village of Harriman residents at no cost.

The facility will accept leaves and brush (brush must be tied, under 4 foot in length and no larger than 5 inches in diameter). No grass clippings, logs or wood will be accepted.

Gearing up for Leaf Season!

Highway Superintendent Pat Patterson and Supervisor Cardone look over one of two leaf machines which will be used for leaf pickup.  Highway Department mechanics and employees recently refurbished all mechanical parts, adhering to our cost saving measures.

The Town of Monroe Highway Department is preparing for this year's leaf pickup. Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for specific information regarding when pickup will begin. As a reminder, the Highway Department will collect leaves at each Town maintained road on a continual basis throughout the designated pickup period.
