Dear Residents & Community Members,
It is said that April showers bring May flowers. If that's the case, we will all be enjoying a plentiful garden soon enough! The month of April has been busy on many fronts in Monroe. Most recently, our community came together once again to participate in the annual Monroe Clean Sweep event. We are pleased to share that an impressive number of volunteers participated in this year's event to assist in cleaning up our town. As a result, a 30 yard dumpster was nearly filled with debris and garbage found along areas encompassing the Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe and Village of Harriman. Thank you to those who participated and to those who help to beautify our town day in and day out.
Speaking of gratitude, we often forget how powerful a simple "thank you" can be. Recently, several local residents and officials, including myself, in addition to countless other volunteers, had the opportunity to partake in Hudson Valley Honor Flight, Mission #29. For those who are not familiar, Hudson Valley Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization which "Honors American Veterans" for all their sacrifices by transporting these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them. During the course of the flight, "mail call" takes place. Each veteran receives notes of appreciation for their service and well wishes for their Honor Flight experience. Pictured above is a veteran's reaction to receiving his mail. His expression says it all. Sometimes small words and actions have the biggest impact!
Thank you to our veterans and thank you to our residents who continue to find ways to make a difference in our town and in our country. God Bless.
Be well,
Tony Cardone
Supervisor, Town of Monroe
