Dear Residents & Community Members:

We hope this monthly update finds you staying warm in what has certainly been a frigid January. Speaking of cold, we are extremely grateful to our volunteers who braved the bitter temperatures to assist the Town of Monroe in distributing COVID-19 Test Kits at a drive through event held at Town Hall on Saturday, January 15th. In partnership with Orange County, we were able to distribute nearly 2,000 test kits to both town and county residents. A special thank you to our local law enforcement agencies, elected officials and event volunteers for their dedication in ensuring a successful event.

County Executive Steve Neuhaus announced in a press release that the county has shared $12.82 million in sales tax surplus received for fiscal year 2021 to its municipalities to augment their budgets or help meet community needs. The county’s sales tax revenue rose by more than $68.6 million in 2021. Orange County's tax sharing program is a testament to County Executive Neuhaus' commitment to assisting local municipalities in navigating what continue to be difficult, uncertain times. The tax sharing program assisted in reducing our 2022 tax rate for our town and both villages. Despite the effects of the pandemic and changing business models, the surplus is a clear indicator that the county continues to thrive financially while considering the well-being of its towns, villages and cities. The shared surplus will greatly assist the Town of Monroe and we remain grateful for the continued hard work and fiscal astuteness of County Executive Neuhaus as well as the Orange County Legislature.

In closing, please save the date for a Town of Monroe Open House event spearheaded by Councilwoman Dorey Houle taking place on Monday, February 28th at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. The focus of this 2-hour event is to provide an orientation to new residents in the town and villages while offering the chance for all residents to learn about services, volunteer opportunities, voter registration, and to answer general questions about the town and Orange County. Additional information will be shared in the coming days. We hope to see you there.

Be well, stay safe and stay warm!

Cordially,

Tony Cardone
