Greetings, District 2!
As I wrap up the last meeting of my first term, I’m proud of our students and the progress Dallas ISD has made. I’m grateful to our educators, families, partners and community for all that you do to support student outcomes. It’s been an honor to serve, and I’d love to keep working in a second term to build on our momentum.
April was a busy month across our schools - here are a few highlights:
Dallas ISD School Board and Bond Election Alert
District 2 Monthly Update
-
Adaptive Swim: Our five district pools are busy places! In addition to our high school swim teams, our Dallas ISD swimming pools are used by students in functional living skills programs to learn water safety and receive aquatic instruction. Additionally, across the district, our second grade students are learning lifesaving water safety skills. Prop D in our bond addresses much needed maintenance for our five swimming pools that serve thousands of students each year to ensure these facilities remain safe and accessible.
-
Career Connections: More than 460 students participated in this year’s Internship Expo, connecting with district teams and exploring real-world career pathways. Students are building skills, gaining experience, and exploring post-graduation pathways.
-
World Leaders: Sixth-grade students took on the role of global leaders through Dallas ISD’s Model U.N., representing countries, debating real-world issues, and building skills in collaboration and critical thinking. This is a strong example of classroom learning coming to life and preparing students for a connected world.
April Board Debrief: This month, Dallas ISD had its regular Board Briefing and Meeting. I’ve chosen to highlight a few key items below:
-
College, Career, and Military Readiness: We continue to see progress in our goals, with more students meeting college readiness benchmarks, earning industry certifications, and completing financial aid applications. More students are also graduating with clear pathways into the workforce, with growth in Level I and II certificates and more options for what comes next.
-
Budget Update: The board received an update on the current year’s budget and an early look at planning for 2026–2027. The proposed budget continues to invest in people by raising starting teacher pay to $68,000, increasing the minimum wage to $17.50, and tying meaningful salary growth to performance and hard-to-staff campuses. In May, Dallas ISD will host a series of community budget meetings. These meetings are an opportunity for families and community members to learn more about the district’s priorities, ask questions, and share feedback as the budget takes shape.
As always, please reach out to me if you have thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, or just to say hello!
Best,
Sarah Weinberg
