May/June 2025

Dear Residents & Community Members,

Although the rain and lack of sunshine made for a dismal start to June, this week's heatwave certainly turned things around quickly! Luckily there is a break in the heat today as our Highway Department along with Gorman Construction and the following municipalities assist us in performing paving work on Larkin Drive from County Route 105 to Bailey Farm Road: Village of Monroe, Towns of Blooming Grove, Chester, Cornwall, Montgomery, New Windsor, Woodbury, Tuxedo, Warwick, as well as Orange County. As you recall, the remaining stretch of Larkin Drive to the Town of Woodbury line was paved a few years ago. We remain committed to maintaining the road infrastructure in our jurisdiction while continuing to fight for improvements on roads like Route 17M that fall under the responsibility of New York State.

There are a lot of community events on the horizon, beginning with the Repair Cafe happening at Town Hall this Saturday. Take a look around your house and bring down anything in need of repair before you toss it! A special thank you to the Monroe Conservation Commission for hosting this event.

Please see the information below regarding this year's Independence Day Celebration on the Millponds taking place on Thursday, July 3rd. Hosted by the Village of Monroe and sponsored in conjunction with the Town of Monroe and Village of Harriman, this event is an annual tradition of spectacular fireworks that our community looks forward to enjoying.

Lastly, we extend a heartfelt congratulations to the Monroe-Woodbury Class of 2025 and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Here's to a fantastic start to Summer! Enjoy!

Cordially,

Tony Cardone

Supervisor, Town of Monroe

Town Moves Forward with Process to Formally Establish Town Water District 14

Pictured above is Supervisor Tony Cardone delivering the Home Rule Authorization to Assemblyman Karl Brabenec at the State Capitol in Albany.

At a Special Meeting held on Monday, June 9th, the Town Board passed a resolution authorizing Home Rule Request on behalf of the Town of Monroe regarding New York State Senate Bill S6247A and Assembly Bill A5877A. This authorization confirms the town's desire to legalize, validate, ratify and confirm the establishment of Water District No. 14 and allows the issuance of bonds or notes by the Town to finance certain capital improvements within Water District No. 14 which have been funded initially with inter-fund borrowings from the Town’s General Fund. In order to move forward with the aforementioned, the town was required to approve and submit a Home Rule Request to the New York State Senate and Assembly. Supervisor Cardone and the Town Board have been working on this since 2018 and are pleased to see it progressing. Special thanks to Assemblyman Karl Brabenec for his diligence in ensuring it remained a priority. The final step in the process is the Governor's signature.

Honoring All Who Serve

Please be sure to stop in to Town Hall in your travels and take home a toy soldier from the basket in the lobby. We ask that you place the soldier somewhere that will serve as a reminder to pray for the men and women serving our country. A simple, yet important way to honor all who serve. God Bless America.
