Topics Updated

Our editorial process has become much more involved over the past year. We now have more rigorous standards for topics. The topics are reviewed by our Editor-in-Chief or Deputy Editors-in-Chief, then reviewed by a Subspecialty Editorial Board Member and again by the Author. Below are our Blog updates containing topics updated and images added to current topics.

We have new books posted on our Books page:

Mark Mitchell, Omar Zahid Chohan
2nd ed, 406 pages, $53, Self (2018)
Listed under: autopsy; Textbook chapters: Forensics & autopsy
Carefully chosen from among almost 1000 autopsies performed at large teaching hospitals in a 35-year career in anatomic pathology, are 23 autopsies that represent classically important or interesting diseases. The cases have high quality color gross, microscopic, and radiographic images, discussions of the pathologic findings, key pathophysiologic features, associated stories from medical history and relevant medical laboratory science. They have been organized using the mnemonic VINDICATE to help the reader relate the findings to the major classes of disease. All the discussions are referenced and have questions for further study. This text serves as a companion for the study of pathology and pathophysiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The second edition adds Dr. Chohan as coauthor and includes modern radiographic findings on many of the cases.

Saul Suster , David Suster
2nd ed, 472 pages, $173, LWW (2020)
Series: Biopsy Interpretation Series
Listed under: lung; Textbook chapters: Lung (nontumor & tumor)
Part of the popular Biopsy Interpretation Series, Biopsy Interpretation of the Lung is a concise, practical resource with a strong focus on diagnosis and management oriented ancillary testing. It provides superbly illustrated coverage of the full range of neoplasms and nonneoplastic entities arising within the lung. Focusing on the daily tasks and needs of the general pathologist, this updated Second Edition is an excellent bench reference for the interpretation of the most common lung biopsies and is also a helpful resource for surgical pathologists, pathology residents, pathology fellows, pulmonologists, pulmonology fellows and thoracic surgeons.

Kiyoko Oshima, Lysandra Voltaggio
1st ed, 225 pages, $149, IP Press (2020)
Series: Innovative Pathology Press Survival Guide
Listed under: liver; Textbook chapters: Liver & intrahepatic bile ducts
Liver pathology requires patience and attention to detail. While a thorough microscopic examination is necessary, it is not enough, and evaluation of biopsies in a vacuum can be dangerous. Knowledge of the clinical picture, including laboratory and imaging studies, is imperative. Without such correlation, pathologists cannot issue a clinically useful report to guide a patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan. With this survival guide to liver biopsies, we aim to provide the reader with a solid, basic foundation of liver pathology. Our goal is to reduce the pervasive initial anxiety and guide the readers into reaching accurate diagnoses and building on this basic knowledge. Though diagnostic struggles are common, they often turn into satisfying rewards each time we are able to piece together the puzzle. This book will pave the way to practice liver pathology.

Lewis Braverman
11th ed, 912 pages, $320, LWW (2020)
Listed under: head & neck/endocrine; Textbook chapters: Thyroid gland
Through ten outstanding editions, Werner & Ingbar's The Thyroid: A Fundamental and Clinical Text has been the go to reference for the most comprehensive coverage of the thyroid, including anatomy, development, biochemistry, physiology, pathophysiology and treatment of all thyroid disorders. Now in full color throughout, the 11th Edition of this award winning text remains the clinician’s preferred source of authoritative information on the thyroid; an essential resource for all endocrinologists and thyroid surgeons.
