November 2023

Dear Residents & Community Members,

We hope this update finds you well and having enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and/or friends! With December upon us, so is the Season of Giving. Whether it's a monetary donation, a wrapped present or the gift of your time to help others in need, there are so many valuable opportunities to assist our fellow community members, particularly during the holiday season. Monroe Gives, Toys for Military Tots, the Monroe Police Department annual PBA Toy Drive, as well as our local food pantries at Sacred Heart-St. Patrick Church, Monroe Presbyterian Church and Monroe Methodist Church are just a few organizations who are working to help our community this holiday season and are in need of support.

The Village of Monroe will host its Winterfest on Saturday, December 9th. Please consider attending this festive event as it's a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season. There are also many other holiday events happening throughout the county this season. Please visit www.orangetourism.org/events for a full list of ways to enjoy the spirit of the season!

Cordially,

Tony Cardone

Supervisor, Town of Monroe

"You're a grand old flag, you're a high flying flag and forever in peace may you wave."

The Town of Monroe is thankful to those who sponsored a flag in the recent "Flags for Our Heroes" campaign at Town Hall. What a beautiful site to see so many flags flying in unison on the Town Hall Field of Honor and what better reminder of our freedom than "the emblem of the land I love." We are pleased to announce that $550 was raised for Hudson Valley Honor Flight and will be presented in support of their efforts at the Lunch of Honor event this weekend.

A special thank you to Monroe resident Jack Thau who volunteered his time to place all flags with hero tags on the Field of Honor. Jack is a 2023 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School and is currently a U.S. Army National Guard Specialist. He completed his basic and AIT training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and is currently assigned to Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery out of Stewart in New Windsor, New York as a Cannon Crew Member 13B. We thank Jack as well as all the brave men and women who answer the call to serve our country.

For the first time in school history the Monroe-Woodbury High School Boys Cross Country team returned to a state championship event on November 18th to defend its title at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls and emerged victorious! They are now back-to-back New York State Federation Cross Country Champions!   Adding to the excitement, the team competed as the "MWXC Club" at the Nike NY Regional at Bowdoin Park on Saturday, November 25th and placed #1, securing a trip to compete in the Nike Cross Nationals Championship in Portland, Oregon on December 2nd as one of only 20 teams in the country. We congratulate these young men and coaches on their tremendous accomplishments and wish them the best of luck this weekend!

A Time to Give Thanks and Celebrate at the Monroe Senior Center!

Members of the Monroe Senior Center enjoyed a catered Thanksgiving Day lunch on Thursday, November 16th and were joined by students of the Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Club, teacher advisor, Mr. Bill Earl as well as several school administrators. Students attending helped serve the meal, socialized with seniors and showed off their dance moves! The Senior Center has enjoyed a wonderful working relationship with the club for several years and appreciates their involvement in contributing to the success of events such as this. Time spent together offers each group the opportunity to interact and have fun, a valuable and rewarding experience for both the students and the seniors!
