February 2024

Dear Residents & Community Members,

Happy Leap Day! With March almost here, the weather earlier this week has us thinking Spring! While we aren't quite there yet, it's always nice to see our residents out and about enjoying our parks and Pickleball Courts when we do get a break from the Winter weather.

Keeping in mind the infrastructure needs of our Water Districts, the town is currently seeking funding for Water District 14 through FY 2025 Congressionally Directed Spending. This funding will allow the town to replace the water main and secure a generator for this district. Town Engineer Shawn Arnott of MHE states "Working with the Supervisor, Councilwoman Bingham, and the town's grant writer, Millennium Strategies, our office is preparing a petition for Water District 14 residents to consider, which we believe will further enhance our application scoring." As additional grant opportunities open this Summer, the town will seek funding to replace all water meters in this district as well. Additionally, we are looking into applying for grant funding through the WIIA (Water Infrastructure and Improvement Act) Program in the upcoming application cycle. We are pleased to report that we have also secured funding for a generator for the Water District 1 pumphouse. As always, we will continue to seek funding opportunities to improve our Water Districts and overall infrastructure as needed.

There are several upcoming events featured in this month's update that we hope you'll consider participating in. Please see below for more information. Wishing you a great month ahead!

Cordially,

Tony Cardone

Remembering Sr. Olivia

The Town of Monroe mourns the loss of Sr. Olivia Reginella,  a member of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines) in Monroe who passed away on February 2nd. In addition to being a dedicated member of the Pallottine Sisters community for 75 years, Sr. Olivia played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Monroe Senior Center, working tirelessly with local elected officials to ensure a place for seniors to socialize, learn and thrive was created. We thank Sr. Olivia for her dedication to our community and will forever be thankful for her contributions.

Keeping Our Roadways As Safe As Possible

Highway Department Begins Tree Trimming on Local Roadways

Pictured above are Highway Department employees working to remove a tree on Carol Drive.

Several trees were also recently trimmed on Larkin Drive.

In an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of those traveling our roads, it is sometimes necessary to trim back or remove trees that could possibly interfere with visibility, snow plows, school buses or large trucks and tractor trailers. The Highway Department continues to evaluate trees in need of trimming throughout the town. Please contact the Highway Department at 845-782-8583 with any questions or concerns related to tree trimming on town roads.

Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis to deliver meals between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday.
