"Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it."

Dear Residents & Community Members:

It always evokes an enormous sense of pride to see our community come together on Memorial Day to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our freedom. On Saturday, May 25th, the Scouts and Leaders of BSA Troop 440, Monroe, together with our veteran members of the American Legion Post 488, Monroe, honored our deceased veterans that are laid to rest in the Monroe Community Cemetery by placing American flags on each grave in preparation for Memorial Day. Following the placement of the flags, there was a prayer service led by Past Commander Marty Currid which included the reading of a poem and the playing of Taps.

Please see below for additional photos of parade participants. May we never forget our military veteran service members that are no longer with us, including our POWs and those MIA and the sacrifices they made.

Looking ahead, we hope you'll be able to join us at our upcoming Food Truck Festival on Saturday, June 15th from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. at O&R Park. The event will benefit "First Due Ladies," Harriman Engine Company’s Ladies Auxiliary that provides support to the entire Monroe Joint Fire District. We have a fantastic food & music lineup and are excited to once again host this fun-filled community event. Be sure to bring your appetite!

Cordially,

Tony Cardone
