Brother Omar and his family are refugees from Jordan seeking asylum here in the United States. He and his wife came to the US seeking a better life for their five children. When they came to Orange County to start their new journey, not only did they face language barriers and financial hardship, they were now living in a country with a completely different structural system.
The month's following their arrival, we had the privilege of connecting with Omar and his family. A local community volunteer had been working with Omar, given our focus on self-sufficiency, the community member decided to included us in Omar's journey. While our case managers worked closely and extensively with Omar and his family, we had the privilege of help them gain access, and benefit from, resources ranging in food stamps, immunizations, medical check ups and specialty appointments. Additionally we worked together with Omar to register his children in school. Furthermore, we were blessed to witness the growth Omar and his family attained through the temporary monthly zakat assistance made possible through our generous monthly donors.
Brother Omar went from feeling hopeless and lost to now relying on his strengths and capacities. With his reliable source of transportation thanks to our car donation program he has the flexibility he needs to work and provide for his family. Lastly, in his journey towards self-sufficiency, he is attending school in order to obtain his HAVC Technician Certificate.
