Weaverville, NC. The Town of Weaverville is pleased to announce that the State of North Carolina’s 2023-2025 fiscal biennium budget allocated the Town $15 million for its water treatment plant expansion.

“The Town of Weaverville is elated to see funding for this vital project come to fruition,” stated Mayor Patrick Fitzsimmons. Mayor Fitzsimmons went on to share that this project has been on the table for formal discussion since 2018 and is necessary as the Town partners with its neighbors in the provision of emergency water for our growing communities. Weaverville's 2023-2024 Paving Project is Underway

The Town of Weaverville is ready to begin work on the 2023-24 PAVING PROJECT!

Paving Contractor, French Broad Paving of Marshall, N.C. will begin mobilizing workers and equipment around November 1st on Wildwood Knoll to Wildwood Park.

Other streets scheduled for this improvements project include:

  • Twin Courts Drive
  • Courseview Drive
  • Preston Court
  • Birkdale Avenue
  • Roberts Street
  • Alabama Avenue
  • Central Avenue
  • Central Avenue Extension

The work will begin by removing (milling) and recycling the asphalt surface, repairing the underlying stone base, then paving with a heavy-duty asphalt surface layer.

The Town asks that you be patient as this work proceeds and drive carefully to protect the workers. At times, sections of the road as well as individual driveways may be blocked, so begin to think about alternate routes and parking during the work hours. The timeframe is weather and temperature dependent.

'Tis the Leaf Season' – Tips for Managing the Piles of Piles

Where should we place loose leaves for collection?

Option 1: Collect curbside in clear bags or piles

Loose leaves may be piled curbside from October 15th through December 15th and from March 1st through May 1st and will be picked up by the town’s leaf vacuum. They may also be placed in clear plastic bags for collection.

In both cases, keep the leaves out of the roads, sidewalks and drainage. Bicyclists and drivers risk accidents and injury because of leaves blocking traffic lanes. Leaves washed into storm drains can lead to clogging and flooding and add excess nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) to our waterways.

Option 2: Leave the leaves

Leaves provide food and shelter for butterflies, bees, beetles, moths and more over the winter season. Leave the leaves where they fall to support pollinators and biodiversity in your yard. A thin layer of leaves also protects and nourishes your lawn. Rake the rest around your trees, shrubs and beds for free mulch.

A Message from Weaverville's Police Department

U-turns are among the most dangerous driving maneuvers. Illegal U-turns are particularly dangerous because drivers take risks that not only endanger their own safety but also endanger the safety and lives of others around them. They are risky, unexpected maneuvers that don’t allow adequate time for other drivers and involved pedestrians to react properly.

The Weaverville Police Department reminds everyone that U-turns in front of Town Hall on Main Street are prohibited. The pedestrian crosswalk, combined with three parking lots adjacent to the roadway, makes this area particularly active. A violation of this law will cost you over $200 in fines and court costs. Please help keep our town as safe as it can be and refrain from the temptation of making this dangerous move, as well as speeding and other common traffic violations.
