Retirement of Weaverville's Chief of Police, Ron Davis
Weaverville Town Manager Selena Coffey announces the retirement of Weaverville’s Chief of Police, Ron Davis. Chief Davis was hired in January 2019 with a career of over 30 years of experience, and, according to Manager Coffey, “Chief Davis leaves a strong legacy of professionalism, unity, compassion, kindness, and integrity. Not only did Chief Davis implement new and improved law enforcement practices, but he strengthened an environment of trust and comradery within the Weaverville Police Department” during his tenure. While most police agencies in the area have suffered staff shortages, the Weaverville Police Department has had officers applying for positions with the Department even when the Department didn’t have vacancies. In addition to his numerous accomplishments as Chief, Chief Davis was the first Chief to introduce hybrid and electric vehicles to his department’s patrol fleet.
In Chief Davis’ statement, “The decision to retire comes after much thought and consideration about my career and my strong belief in our department, and I want to retire in order to spend more time with my family. I want to express my deepest gratitude for the privilege of being able to work with the Town Manager and the exceptional team of professionals the manager have assembled. I cannot be prouder of the officers and employees at the Weaverville Police Department. It has indeed been the honor of my life.”
Mayor Fitzsimmons has added his gratitude to Chief Davis and wishes to thank him for all of his accomplishments and care for the Town.
Chief Davis’ retirement will be effective at the end of March 2024 and plans are in place to provide for a smooth transition for the Town of Weaverville residents.

Lake Louise Park Rules and Reminders
-Please Note-
*Do Not Feed the Ducks.
*Dogs and pets must be on a leash.
The age-old notion of feeding bread products to ducks at the park is just that, an antiquated notion. So don’t be fooled. This stereotype is actually an unhealthy practice that could lead to health problems and malnourishment for these waterfowl.
The local park resident fowl are almost certainly not going to go hungry, which means do not Kill the ducks with bread!

Sgt. Fulmer of Weaverville's Police Department
The Weaverville Police Department takes immense pride in honoring one of its esteemed team members this year, marking a significant milestone in his dedicated service. On December 29th, 2023, Sergeant Thomas Fulmer reached an impressive twenty (20) years of employment with the department. His journey began in 2003 when he joined from the Mars Hill College Police Department, where he had already garnered valuable experience over several years.
Throughout his tenure, Sergeant Fulmer has exemplified unwavering commitment and professionalism, predominantly serving as a supervisor during the demanding night shifts. Navigating the challenges of the night requires more than just courage—it demands dedication, competence, and the ability to remain sharp when most citizens find solace in their homes, with their families, and asleep in bed. Bearing the additional responsibility of a supervisor underscores Sergeant Fulmer's exceptional qualities, solidifying his status as a shining example of "Weaverville's Finest."
The entire police department extends heartfelt congratulations to Sergeant Fulmer for reaching this remarkable twenty-year milestone. His outstanding contributions have significantly contributed to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Weaverville over the past two decades.

Water Pollution & the Stormwater System
HELP PREVENT WATER POLLUTION:
The Town’s stormwater system takes rainwater away from homes and streets through the storm drain openings you see on your neighborhood curb or the grates in the pavement. Illegal dumping, also called illicit discharge, occurs when anything other than natural precipitation enters the storm drain system. Materials illegally dumped in the storm drainage system not only block the system, causing localized flooding, but also cause or contribute to water pollution.
The following items should be kept out of storm drains:
· yard waste, grass clippings
· leaves, limbs, branches
· trash
· concrete, wet or dry
· paint
· oil
· grease
· fireworks
· wastewater or wash water
Call the Weaverville Public Works Department at (828)645-0606 or email dale.pennell@weavervillenc.org to report an illicit discharge or any other type of water pollution in our streams, ponds, ditches or rivers. If calling after working hours you will be prompted to leave a message which will be promptly received and handled as needed. In case of emergencies, call 911.
