Leah & the Rabbit: A Juneteenth Play

On June 15th, this three-act piece begins with a tour of the 1790s slave dwelling and reconstructed Vance house. The tour will be followed by the play, Leah & the Rabbit, which utilizes puppetry and moving panoramas to tell the story of Leah Erwin, an enslaved woman who lived on the Vance plantation. The program concludes with a moderated discussion on the play, the perpetuation of the 'Lost Cause' mentality, and the reclaiming of our collective histories.

Weaverville Outdoor Recreation Complex News:

New things have been popping up at the Recreation Complex since its opening on February 3rd. In response to neighborhood sound concerns, we have planted Evergreen trees and installed sound screens on three of the gate walls. We have one more set of sound screens coming, that will be attached to the side of Court C. Coating and painting of the Courts is still in the plans, and we will be sure to notify folks as far in advance as we can.

Our Recreation Complex Ad Hoc Committee will meet to discuss a variety of items including sign improvements, things we've learned so far, and general court usage. They will also brainstorm ways to encourage more beginners onto the Courts, on top of the Clinics we have been offering, which have initiated over 50 beginners so far.

Contact, Sarah Myers at 828-658-5816 or smyers@weavervillenc.org, with questions or for more information.
