Board of Supervisors Reorganization Meeting Highlights - January 4
Annual Reorganization Meeting
The Board of Supervisors held the annual township reorganization meeting on Monday, January 4. They elected John Hertzer as board chairman and David Bachman as vice-chairman. Several annual business items were defined, including establishing the time and place for the Board of Supervisors monthly regular and workshop meetings, designating the Allegheny Times as the official newspaper for posting official public notices (the Post-Gazette is the alternate official newspaper for emergency purposes), and appointing official engineering firms and the township solicitor. Additionally, the board appointed several residents to fill vacancies on the township's numerous volunteer boards and committees. An updated list of committee members will be posted soon on the township website. Finally, the board voted to change the time of the regular meetings to 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.
The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on MAG-TV, Comcast channel 18, or Verizon channel 37. The meetings are rebroadcast throughout the month on MAG-TV. Check the website for times. You can also watch a recording online. View the meeting agendas in advance here.

Winter Weather Reminders
With the winter season upon us, the Moon Township Public Works Department reminds residents to be prepared for driving in inclement weather during the winter months. Below are some helpful tips for the upcoming season:
- Make sure you have good tires on your vehicle and be aware of changing road conditions and how to brake on slippery roads.
- Help snowplow drivers do their job and stay 200 feet behind the maintenance vehicle so the driver can see you.
- The Code of Ordinances prohibits parking on township roads between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. This is extremely important during the winter months so that road crews can safely plow the streets without obstacles.
- The code also prohibits shoveling or plowing snow from your property or sidewalks into the streets.
- Residents with sidewalks are required to clear their sidewalks of snow.
- To help reduce the amount of snow that will be pushed back into your driveway during snow plow operations, pile snow near the road on the right side of the driveway.

 The Moon Park Ice Rink
The Moon Park Ice Rink is open! Last year, the small ice rink under the Clearview Pavilion was a big hit. This year the rink expanded and moved onto the tennis courts. This new location allows the rink to more than double its size. The 48' x 68' rink has short sides to allow for recreational hockey or ice skating.
Acrylic ice functions in many of the same ways as real ice, but it doesn't require below freezing temperatures. For the best results, we recommend sharpening your skates. Sharp skates will provide the best glide. The rink is open daily from dawn to dusk and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from dawn to 9 p.m.
Street shoes are not allowed on the rink. No checking is allowed during contact play. The rink is free and open to the public. Currently, we do not have skates available for rent. Check Moonparks.org for more information.

Archery Hunt in Moon Parks
September 19-January 23 (No Sunday Hunts)
With the increasing deer population, Moon Township is hosting a public (archery only) deer hunting program for the 2020-2021 season. This allows a limited number of licensed hunters who applied for a permit to hunt at Moon Park, Olson Park, and Robin Hill Park during hunting season from September 19-January 23. There will be no Sunday hunting and there will be no firearms permitted. Hunters must have completed the Pennsylvania Basic Hunter-Trapper Education Course and have a valid archery hunting license. All Pennsylvania Game rules will apply.
The Hunter Access Program created a partnership between the Game Commission and the Township whereby they work together to improve the public hunting opportunities and wildlife habitat. This program allows hunters and trappers to help manage the game and fur-bearer populations through lawful hunting and trapping. This program will be able to minimize the overpopulation of deer in Moon Township and the surrounding areas. By lowering the density of deer in the area, this will help to lower car accidents caused by deer, the growing tick population, and help to protect green space in Moon Township where deer are overeating. We have reached the permitted limit for the time. For more information and information on the 2021-2022 season, visit www.moontwp.us.

Moon Township collaborated with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to bring voice-activated
e-gov to resident's households. This will allow users to download the skill of "Make it Moon" through their Google or Alexa app and then speak to their device to ask about events in Moon or report a problem.
This feature also allows users to find out when events are going on by asking questions such as "When is trick or treat?" or "What do I do with my tree limbs?" Also, it can be used like the e-gov service offered online through the municipality to report problems and ask questions.
