Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - July 1
Approval of Victoria Ridge Development
T
he Board of Supervisors announced the approval of the final Planned Residential Development (PRD) application for the Victoria Ridge. This housing development would create single family homes in a community between Moon Township and Findlay Township.
Approval of MTMA as Storm-water Billing Agent
Supervisors designated the Moon Township Municipal Authority as the billing agent for the collection of the Storm-water management fees in accordance with Ordinance No. 688 as amended by Ordinance No. 692. This allows all storm-water fees to be collected with regular municipal authority statements.
The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00
p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on M

Independence Day Fireworks
The Independence Day celebration at Moon Park has been canceled for 2020. However, the park, playgrounds, and splash pad will remain open. We encourage the community to come out and enjoy all Moon parks over the holiday weekend.
The annual fireworks display has been moved to the Robert Morris University campus. The fireworks display will start at 10:00 p.m. on July 4th. With this new central location, it is our hope that more Moon residents can enjoy the show. No public parking will be available on the RMU campus. We encourage residents to stay home and enjoy the fireworks. We look forward to the return of our full festivities in 2021.

 Peace, Love, & Pine Trees
Earth Day Celebration At Moon Park
Sunday, August 16
1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Jump on the Earth Day Express at Moon Park, August 16 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. This year's theme is peace, love, and pine trees.
This event has been re-designed to accommodate COVID-19 guidelines for safety. Moon Township's green team, staff, and moon garden club members will be on hand to host an express lane at Moon Park for Earth Day themed giveaways and activities to take home.
All Moon Area elementary school students are invited to enter the Moon Parks & Recreation t-shirt design contest.

Day Camp in a Bag
Give the kids some fun summer activities with Moon Parks and Recreation's Day-Camp-In-A-Bag program. This program is for kids age 5-12. Register your child for their reusable bag for $20. Bags can be picked up at the Moon Township Farmers' Market at Moon Park on Wednesdays, from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. The first $20 registration can be made online or by calling the Moon Parks office at 412.262.1703 and paying with a credit card. Each week, you can bring the bag back for a "refill" for $5, which can be paid at the Farmers' Market (cash or check only). Check out our

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy music in the outdoors surrounded by the natural beauty of Robin Hill Park on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. There is no charge to attend.

Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company Car Cruise

Moon Park
The annual MTVFC car cruise is right around the corner. Stop by to check out the cars and enjoy some music. If you want to show off your wheels, come to the park and pick a spot to settle in. The cruise is open to all classes of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and specialty vehicles. The gate opens at 7 a.m. The event is free to attend, but make sure to show your support by visiting the food booths sponsored by the firemen and the ladies' auxiliary. All proceeds benefit the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Neighborhood Association Forum Meetings

Moon Township is looking for opportunities to engage local neighborhood associations and Home Owners Association (HOA) organizations to provide support and resources. The forum will serve as an opportunity for appointed representatives from HOA's within Moon Township to meet and discuss issues and concerns and to learn what is happening in the Township. Representatives are encouraged to join the Moon Township Community Development Team on Thursday, July 9 at the Moon Township Municipal Building to connect and exchange ideas and solutions. Door Recycling Program
Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials. There are three ways to schedule a collection:

Senior Connection Summer Fun Kits
Don't forget to stop by the Moon Park on Wednesdays to purchase your take home activity kit.
Kits will be available for pick up at the Farmers' Market from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
The kits include crafts, games, projects, treats, recipes, and more. Every week there will be new and exciting additions. The cost is $3.00 per kit(cash only) and are available to Senior Connection members.

MCA-TV Offers Free Television Production Classes
MCA-TV relies on volunteers to film, produce, and star in our productions. If you ever wondered what it would be like to work in television, this is your opportunity to do so by signing up for our free quarterly production classes. These classes are open to residents of any community.
The training course is a series of four hands-on classes providing the basics of camera operation, lighting, audio, and editing. Successful completion of the course provides the opportunity to be an official MCA-TV volunteer, ready and able to assist with any MCA-TV production.
Classes run from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesdays for four weeks beginning Wednesday, August 5 at the MCA-TV studio located at 1700 Beaver Grade Road, Suite 140, Moon Township, PA 15108. To register, contact MCA-TV Director Allison Ford at

 Promote Your Event on the Community Bulletin Board
Is your organization or nonprofit looking to get the word out about an upcoming event? MCA-TV offers a bulletin board service for Moon Township residents to publicize their community program or event in-between regularly scheduled programming. The community bulletin board is an automated, computer-generated video graphics message service provided free of charge to all Moon Township residents as well as nonprofit groups and organizations. Visit mca-tv.org and click on "Bulletin Board" tab to read the guidelines and rules and to fill out the online submission form. Paper forms are available in the MCA-TV offices.

 Sewickley Bridge Construction
PennDOT District 11 announced the preservation work on the Sewickley Bridge in Moon Township and Sewickley Borough will begin Friday, July 17, weather permitting.
To minimize traffic impacts, improve safety, and take advantage of lower traffic volumes the department is announcing a 24 consecutive day around-the-clock closure of the Sewickley Bridge is tentatively scheduled from July 17 through August 10. By permitting the 24-day closure, the department is eliminating all additional weekend closures.
Details of the closure, including scope of work, start and end times, and detours, will be provided in advance of the preservation work beginning.
Single-lane alternating traffic will occur as needed on the bridge over the Ohio River between Route 65 in Sewickley and Route 51 in Moon weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through mid-July.

Moon Township
collaborated with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to bring voice activated
e-gov to resident's households. This will allow users to download the skill of "Make it Moon" through their Google or Alexa app and then speak to their device to ask about events in Moon or report a problem.
This feature also allows users to find out when events are going on by asking questions such as "When is trick or treat?" or "What do I do with my tree limbs?" In addition, it can be used like the e-gov service offered online through the municipality to report problems and ask questions.
