Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - October 4

Valvoline Instant Oil Change Coming to University Boulevard
The board approved development plans for the Valvoline Instant Oil Change building which will be located on University Boulevard between Eat'n Park and Arby's. Construction is expected to begin in November.

New Ordinance Establishes Regulations for Drones
At the request of the Federal Aviation Administration and the Allegheny County Airport Authority, the board approved Ordinance No. 666 which authorizes the Moon Township Police Department to enforce the drone regulations established by the Federal government. Residents are advised that in accordance with these laws, it is illegal to operate a drone in Moon Township without prior FAA approval.

The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. You can watch live on

Halloween Spooktacular

The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting  a community open house during National Fire Prevention Week. The event is at the public safety building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend to learn about fire safety, creating a fire escape plan, how to operate a fire extinguisher, and more.
                 
MTVFC Sportsmen's Bash Tickets on Sale
 
The annual Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company Sportsmen's Bash will be  held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 12-7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Tickets, which include food and refreshments, are available for a $30 donation. Contact a fireman or visit one of the fire stations on Mondays at 7 p.m. to obtain a ticket.
                 
Fall Yard Waste Collection

The Moon Township Public Works department provides the following services to help residents clean up their yards before winter. As a reminder, there will be no pickups on Veterans Day (observed November 10), Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving.

Compost Dropoff

Residents may drop off yard waste to be composted, including tree limbs, leaves and plant matter. Tree limbs should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter, and should not be bundled or tied. Please notify Public Works at 412.262.1700 if you will be dropping off waste or picking up compost or wood chips outside of the posted hours.

Curbside Leaf Pickup
Monday - Friday
October 30 - December 1

The schedule follows residents' regular garbage collection. Simply place leaves at the curb by 8 a.m. on pickup day. Please remember to put leaves in biodegradable paper bags. Loose leaves and leaves in plastic bags or boxes will not be picked up.

Curbside Tree Branch Pickup
Monday - Friday
October 30 - December 1

The schedule follows residents' regular garbage collection. Please place branches at the curb no later than 8 a.m. on pickup day. Tree branches should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter, and not be bundled or tied.
 
Thanks for Supporting the Moon Township Farmers' Market

Moon Township thanks the community, vendors and sponsors for supporting the annual farmers' market.  The market was open from 3-6 p.m. at the Municipal Building on Wednesdays June through September. 

Some vendors offer product year-round. If you didn't stock up on your favorite products, try contacting the vendors. Here's the list.

2017 Property Tax Information

Township of Moon Property Tax
The Moon Township property tax office is now collecting the 10% penalty amount which runs from August 1 to December 31, 2017. Any Township of Moon property taxes that remain outstanding after December 31 will be turned over to the delinquent tax collector as appointed by the Township of Moon. 
 
Moon Area School District Property Tax
The Moon Area School District property tax office is now collecting the face amount from September 1 through October 31, 2017. The installment option is now closed for 2017. 

If you have any changes in mailing address or ownership, you must notify the Moon property tax office at 412.299.7446 as well as Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein at 412.350.4100.

Waste Management at Your Door Program

Can't make it to one of our recycling days? Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.

There are three ways to schedule a collection:
1. Online at www.WMatYourDoor.com
2. Call 800.449.7587

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection. More information on the program and a list of accepted materials can be found through the program's website at www.WMatYourDoor.com or by calling a representative at 800.449.7587.
