Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - September 6

Parks and Recreation Board Presents Playground Plan
Members of the Moon Township Parks and Recreation Board presented a detailed plan for the new playground at Moon Park. The plan calls for replacement of all existing equipment with new features including natural and adventure play areas, a 2- to 5-year-old play area, a 5- to 12-year-old play area, a splash pad, an obstacle course, and an adult exercise area all joined by an ADA accessible pathway. While the township secured a $250,000 grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and budgeted a matching $250,000 for the project, additional funds are needed to complete the project. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Interested businesses, organizations and individuals should contact Amy Ottaviani, Community Engagement and Sponsorship Coordinator, at 412.262.1703 ext. 402 to learn more. Visit to view the plan.

District Rezoning
Following public hearings, the supervisors voted to make the following changes to the Township Zoning Map: change the zoning district designation of certain parcels on Beaver Grade Road and Thorn Run Road from BP District to C-1 Neighborhood Commercial District; to establish a new Marketplace Boulevard TND-District that will permit Mixed-Use Development; and amend the Zoning Code to permit assisted living facilities in the Business Park District.  Also, the supervisors approved a Land Development Plan for University Centre that will include retail shops and restaurants next to the Hilton Garden Inn at 9898 University Boulevard.

MCA-TV Offers Free TV Production Training Classes

Moon Community Access Television (MCA-TV) announced dates for its next television production training course. Classes are free and open to residents of any community.
The training course is a series of four hands-on classes providing the basics of camera operation, lighting, audio and editing. Successful completion of the course provides the opportunity to be an official MCA-TV volunteer, ready and able to assist with any MCA-TV production.
Moon Township residents who successfully complete the production training course may choose to become a community producer. Community producers provide the original and entertaining productions of MCA-TV's programming schedule. Non-residents wishing to create a show to air on MCA-TV must work with a community producer who actively participates in the program development.
Several MCA-TV original shows have won national and state-wide awards including "The Doctor Is In", produced by Dr. Marc Schneiderman, and "Soak it Up: A Storm Water Documentary". These award-winning shows express the evident value of community-produced programming.
Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for four weeks beginning Wednesday, September 20 at the MCA-TV studio located at 1700 Beaver Grade Road, Suite 140, Moon Township, PA 15108. To register, contact MCA-TV Director Allison Eastham at or call 412.269.1191. Space is limited.
