Board Of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - June 2

The Board of Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 2. At the meeting, supervisors recognized the Moon Township Garden Club for 100 years of service. Supervisors also heard a presentation from Jennifer Cloonan, Director of External and Government Affairs for the Comcast Keystone Region.
The board also approved the Major Land Development for Sheetz as recommended by the Planning Director
Supervisors also appointed Samuel McCrimmonn for one position on the Moon Township Library Board of Trustees.

The Board of Supervisors' regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on MAG-TV, Comcast channel 18, or Verizon channel 37. Moon Township Farmers' Market is Back
The Moon Township Farmers Market is back every Wednesday from 3:00 PM-6:30 PM at Moon Park (Joe DeNardo Way).
Many new vendors have signed up for the season, so be sure to stop by and see what good things they have to offer, including the freshest produce, meats, dairy, and baked goods. Give yourself a night off from cooking and take home dinner from one of the prepared food vendors.
All vendors meet strict health and safety guidelines. The market accepts cash, debit, and credit cards.

Glow Run 5k

Let’s light up Moon Township! Runners and Walkers are welcome to join for an evening filled with glow sticks, neon face painting, a black light photo booth, and great music! The 5k race has a new course through Moon Park! Once you have crossed the finish line be sure to stick around for the after-party featuring music, dancing, entertainment, and the awards presentation. If staying home is preferred check out our Virtual Option! Wear your brightest colors and enjoy a fun night where you are the light!
At this time the Glow Run will open registration with a max capacity of 350 racers. We are hopeful as Covid 19 guidelines change to extend this capacity. If staying at home is preferred, we are also offering a Virtual Option! Wear your brightest colors and enjoy a fun night where you are the light!

The system allows residents to submit their concerns and track their resolution through ongoing updates, ensuring a timely response from Moon Township staff.

Moon Township
collaborated with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to bring voice-activated
e-gov to resident's households. This will allow users to download the skill of "Make it Moon" through their Google or Alexa app and then speak to their device to ask about events in Moon or report a problem.
This feature also allows users to find out when events are going on by asking questions such as "When is trick or treat?" or "What do I do with my tree limbs?" Also, it can be used like the e-gov service offered online through the municipality to report problems and ask questions.

Moon Parks and Recreation is taking pavilion rental reservations for the 2021 season. Pavilion rentals can be arranged by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 412.262.1703.
Reservation and payment must be made by the residents to receive the resident rate. Rentals cannot be made in another person's name to get the resident rate.
Reservations can be made for dates from May through September. Monday-Friday at weekday rates, Saturday & Sunday at weekend rates. Only residents of Moon Township receive the resident rate. All agreements and payments must come from the resident.

Are you looking for a way to honor a loved one who served in the military? The Military banner program was a huge hit in 2020 and we are excited to extend the program this year. The banners hang from Memorial Day to Veterans Day and are then taken down to protect them from the winter weather.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Recycling Day. Moon Township’s Environmental Advisory Council, with the assistance of community volunteers, hosts this annual event on the first Saturday in June to help keep reusable items out of landfills. Eligible items included usable construction materials, household appliances, electronics, tires, and some medical supplies. Only one television per vehicle will be accepted. This event is open to Moon Township residents only. Proper ID is required.

Glass Recycling Collection Event

In response to the removal of glass from many residents recycling programs in the Pittsburgh area, Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) launched a network of pop-up glass recycling events. These events recognize that glass remains a recyclable material with vibrant demand in the regional and national recycled marketplace.
The pop-up events hosted by Moon Township will from Saturday, June 12-Thursday, June 17 at the Moon Township Public Works Building located at 1115 Stevenson Mill Road, Moon Township, PA.
The types of glass accepted are:
- All colors of glass bottles, jars, and jugs only
- Caps, lids, and labels are acceptable
- Containers must be empty

Waste Management At Your Door Recycling Program

Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials. There are three ways to schedule a collection:

The Brewer Airport Toyota Film Festival returned for its tenth year on May 29. We want to thank everyone for their submissions. The following films took home awards in the following categories:

Promote Your Event On The Community Bulletin Board

Is your organization or nonprofit looking to get the word out about an upcoming event? MCA-TV offers a bulletin board service for Moon Township residents to publicize their community program or event in-between regularly scheduled programming. The community bulletin board is an automated, computer-generated video graphics message service provided free of charge to all Moon Township residents as well as nonprofit groups and organizations.
