Fall Speaker Series: Charlie Lovett

Charlie Lovett- 11/16 at 6 p.m. at Main Library

The Mooresville Public Library will be hosting our third annual Fall Speaker Series this year! We would like to invite everyone to join us for an upcoming talk by Charlie Lovett! Charlie Lovett, a New York Times bestselling author, will be discussing his most recent novel, The Enigma Affair! This event will take place at the Main Library. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

News From the Friends

Thanks to all of our members, donors, and volunteers for supporting the Library via supporting the Friends. We are on track to provide over $5000 in support to Library projects and programming this year. Please consider a donation to the Friends as part of your year end tax planning. Our next meeting will be on Monday November 13th at 7PM at the Main Street Library. We would love to see you there. We continue to accept used books at the West Branch Library twice each month. Please check the calendar on the mooresvillefriends.com website for drop off dates and times.

Adult Services

Military Body Art- 11/7 at 6:30 p.m. at Richard's Coffee Shop

Join us at Richard's Coffee Shop in downtown Mooresville for an evening of stories from veterans related to their tattoos and military service.

Vietnam Memories of a 1st Cavalry Division Grunt- 11/18 at

1 p.m. at West Branch

Join us for a book talk and signing of "Pop Smoke" by local author Ralph Dagenhart. He will share memories of wartime Vietnam and what it was like living through gunfire, explosions, and bloodshed on foreign soil.

Teen Scene

Art Thoughts- 11/7 at 6 p.m. at Main Library

Teens, this program will bring types of art media you can learn about and work with, expanding your knowledge on what you can use. It will also help you bring out your creativity.

Apply to Join The MPL Teen Advisory Board by November 3 at 5 p.m.

We've extended the deadline to apply for our Teen Advisory Board by three days!

Teens who join TAB will receive 1 hour of community service per meeting. TAB meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 5:00 pm. More information about TAB and an application form can be found here.

Kids Corner

Page Turners- 11/2 at 6 p.m. at Main Library and 11/9 at 4 p.m. at West Branch

If you haven’t heard, Youth Services has started its first ever Picture Book Club in the Mooresville Public Library – Page Turners! Each month, there is a new picture book and an activity, allowing children to explore reading and further their learning beyond the book with hands-on fun! If you miss Page Turners on the first week of the month, at our Main location, don’t worry, because we will be repeating the same book and activity on the second week of the month, at our West Branch; please check either our online calendar or our quarterly brochure for days and times. This program mainly targets the learning practices of 5–8-year-olds, but all our welcome to join!

Preschool STEAM- 11/2 at

10 a.m. at Main Library

Is your preschooler a budding scientist? Are they always asking “Why?”. We will help answer some of those questions. Join us for our monthly Preschool STEAM at 10 a.m. the first Thursday of each month, at the Main branch. In this program we will explore a new scientific principle each month with a story, art, and other hands-on learning opportunities. We would love to see you on November 2 at our Main branch as we discuss chemical reactions.

Local History & Archives

Mooresville Local History and Archives Displays

On display in the Williams Wing through the end of the year: 

Fun for all ages! Our 15th annual exhibit of Mooresville's Mini-Reflections Miniatures Club is on display now in the Williams Wing at the library. The exhibit will remain up through the first week in January. Come check it out!

Come check out one or newest acquisitions, the Long Sam exhibit, also on display now in the Williams Wing at the library! Donated by friends of Dorothy Brown, this collection of photographs tells the story of a country girl from Mooresville who became a celebrity because of her startling resemblance to a cartoon figure called "Long Sam."

New Local History & Archives Hours

Starting in October the Local History & Archives will be open by appointment only.  Visitors wishing to use materials in the Local History & Archives room must make an appointment through our web page or by calling us at 704-664-4315 or emailing us at archives@mooresvillenc.gov.  Appointment times will be available Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

Local Author Showcase

Keep an eye out for our 2023 Local Authors Showcase on our social media pages from November 13-17! This virtual series will feature five local authors from around Iredell County: Greg Atkinson (author of The Secret Power of Kindness), Angela Christine (author of God Rewrote My Resume- "Betrayed to Blessed" Spiritual Warfare in Marriage), Audrey Coots (author of The Prophecy of Aniah), Charity Olds (author of Secret Alliances), and Erin Wood (author of Parallels of Pain: A Journey from Generational Pain to Supernatural Recovery).

Each author will discuss their books, their writing process, and their journey to publishing their books. You can check out last year's Local Author Showcase on our Youtube page.

World Book Kids is an encyclopedia for young learners and has thousands of articles, games, activities, science projects, and more.  World Book Kids is designed to encourage the young learner to be curious. The carefully curated content also supports STEM/STEAM instructional initiatives.
