Moorings Safety Town Hall: April 8, 2025

The Moorings Safety Town Hall drew a standing-room-only crowd interested in the proposed improvements to the Harbour/Crayton intersection and the potential installation of License Plate Readers/Video at 3 of our neighborhood's key entrance and exit points.

Information and safety data on plans for the Harbour/Crayton intersection were presented by Deputy City Engineer Alison Bickett and Traffic Operations Supervisor Dave Rivera, including:

  • The original roundabout design, which was fully designed and later voted down in 2023
  • The mast arm signal design, which the City Council approved to move forward in 2023

The discussion highlighted key differences between the two options and sparked critical dialogue about our neighborhood's traffic growth and pedestrian risk. The presentation highlighted the safety enhancements of both options. However, many of the Moorings residents present felt that the roundabout design showed greater safety benefits.

As of right now, the City is proceeding with the mast arm signal design. If we receive support from our members in the survey below, we will request that the City revisit this decision and consider the roundabout.

The License Plate Reader/Video presentation highlighted the benefits of expanding the coverage of this proven crime prevention technology into the Moorings neighborhood. Other neighborhoods (Port Royal, GSAC, and Royal Harbour) have made donations to the City to increase the coverage this safety technology provides for their community. There is an opportunity for The Moorings to do the same.
