2019-2020 Calendar  Update
A Calendar Survey was administered in January to different stakeholder groups within the partner school districts: Acalanes Union High School District, Lafayette School District, Moraga School District, Orinda Union School District and Walnut Creek School District.  7,741 respondents participated in the survey.
The survey results are currently being considered by the Calendar Task Force Committee as they continue their work with the aim to determine recommendations and/or findings by the middle of February.  The survey data will also being considered by individual school districts.  Survey links follow:  
Update: Measure V Bond at Work
Representatives from CSDA Design Group, an architectural firm, and RGM Construction, presented a comprehensive construction, renovation and modernization plan to the Governing Board at the January 9, 2018 Board meeting.  The Governing Board and members of the public offered suggestions and feedback in preparation for a second review at the February 13, 2018, Board meeting.  Parents and staff interested in the prioritization process of projects and specific work planned for each school, are encouraged to attend next Tuesday's meeting.  A Power Point presentation at the February 13 Governing Board meeting will include a proposed list of projects by school and allocation of Measure V funds. The 2/13 Board packet, which will contain the Power Point presentation, will be available for view on line beginning Friday, February 9.

Governing Board Meeting Highlights
The following are highlights from the January 9 Governing Board meeting: 

~ The Governing Board approved the Notice of Completion and Change Order #1 for the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, Building G re-roofing project. The project finished on time, within budget, and with a total savings of $21,665.25.
~ The annual Moraga Education Foundation report was presented by MEF President Heather Davis. Established in 1982, today MEF raises $1.5 million for the Moraga School District. The report highlighted information on fundraising, business operations, programs funded by MEF, campaign updates, annual reports and community and business sponsors.
~ Measure V Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee member, Kathy Ranstrom, presented a report to the Board on the role and work of the CBOC to date.  The CBOC summary report will be presented to the Board this Spring.
~ The District provided a pre-design phase report to the Board with the intention of prioritizing and defining modernization and new construction projects; establishing a clear scope of work that meets the District's budget; and developing a project schedule that aligns with funding availability. A general timeline was presented for Governing Board review.
~  An annual parcel tax oversight report for year ending June 30, 2017, was presented to the Board.  The Parcel Tax Committee is responsible for ensuring parcel tax funds are expended in accordance to ballot language.
~ Pursuant to Education Codes 41020 and 41020.3, the Governing Board reviewed the Moraga School District annual audit performed by Messner and Hadley, LLC  for year ended June 30, 2017. The Independent Financial Auditor's Report did not identify any findings for the Moraga School District in 2016-17 and the district received a "clean" opinion.
~ The Governing Board approved a service agreement between the Moraga School District and Christy White and Associates, a professional accountancy corporation. This agreement is for the period of July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2020 with an additional three-year renewal option.

The following are highlights from the January 30 Special Governing Board meeting: 

~ The Governing Board discussed options for improving District communications, especially with community members who do not have students attending Moraga TK-8 schools.
~ The Governing Board reviewed and edited the Governance Team Protocol Handbook. The revised handbook will be brought forth to the Governing Board for approval at the regularly scheduled meeting on February 13.
~ The Governing Board reviewed and discussed the pros and cons of transitioning to an electronic online board agenda system and decided not to pursue making  changes at this time.

MSD Committee Updates
All Moraga School District committee meetings are open to the public.  Meeting dates and times can be located on the front page of the MSD website calendar.  Agendas and minutes from meeting are also posted on the MSD website.  

~ The Wellness Committee, charged with developing a MSD Wellness Plan, agreed upon a draft third section of the Wellness Plan, focusing on social emotional learning.  The Committee is developing a teacher survey to gather more information prior to finalizing the social emotional learning section of the Wellness Plan.  The Committee is also planning a parent education program on the topic of stress management on March 15, presented by parent and pediatrician Dr. Paul Espinas, and JM counselor Gaby Alvarez.  Information about this program will be emailed to parents in the coming week.  Next meeting: 2/8 at JM at 3:45 PM.

~ The Cultural Proficiency Committee met January 29 to identify and list indicators in support of Standard 1: " Students, families, and staff value human differences  and varied perspectives, and own their responsibility to respect others.".  Committee members and the  public were all invited to add and comment on indicators through a "gallery walk" of topics.  Next meeting: 2/28 at 7:00 PM at JM.

~ The Coordinating Council, charged with overseeing and developing the Local Control Accounting Plan, or the strategic plan, will next meet on March 7 at 3;30 at CP, room 7.

~ The Student Safety Committee, which is updating the MSD Comprehensive Safety Plan, continues to focus on developing active shooter emergency and supervision plans.  Next meeting: 2/21 at 3:30 at CP, room 7.
