More Bicycle Lanes, Curb and Gutter Plan, Road Rage in Colorado Springs, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • El Paso County Commissioner Carrie Geitner recently held a town hall, which we recorded for you.

  • Fort Carson forbids soldiers from going to the Citadel Mall because it’s too dangerous for people who fire cannons and drive tanks for a living. There are a couple of exceptions, however.

  • The City of Colorado Springs wants your feedback on its shiny new parking and curb-management plan. How much do you want to bet this involves taking even more of your income and restricting your ability to drive a car?

  • Colorado Springs also wants to expand bicycle lanes on Cascade Avenue. Do you think this is necessary?

  • Denver is proposing bicycle lanes in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood, that would eliminate hundreds of existing parking spaces. Denver is sending a clear message that people who drive cars aren’t welcome.

  • One unfortunate soul was murdered inside the Springs Rescue Mission. Tragic.

  • Chip sealing operations on Fillmore Street are causing drivers to get broken windows and tar all over their cars.

  • Colorado is one of the top 5 states for road rage. Maybe that's why they are trying to get us on bicycles.

  • Denver Metro’s Regional Transportation District is in the news again this week. It appears the RTD Chief of Police does not take RTD transportation. Instead, he frequently drives his taxpayer-funded car over 100 mph wherever he goes. Laws are for the little people, folks. The Chief is paid $250,000 per year to abuse laws on the taxpayer’s dime.  He’s on investigative leave now.

  • Also in RTD news this week, they’ve decided to make a temporary “free” program permanent. As we all know, this isn’t free. Nothing is free in government. They just steal from taxpayers.

  • The Colorado Legislature continues to assault TABOR. This latest assault will cost each tax filer around $3000 more per year. The radicals in the legislature are shameless in their desire to eliminate your ability to have a say in your own taxation.

  • Commissioners in Jefferson County are facing scrutiny over a sweetheart deal, which paid a high-profile political consultant hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to scam people out of their TABOR refunds permanently. Cronyism on stilts.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tripod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
