Details on Your 2023 CareerSource Central Florida

Power Skills Academy: West Orange County Location

Welcome to the 2023 CareerSource Summer Youth program! As we shared in our previous email, here are additional details for your attendance of our required Power Skills Academy.

1.)   Major Power Skills Academy Details:

Your PSA will be Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2, 2023, from 9AM – 4PM and located at:

Orange Technical College

“Big Mo” Building

2900 W Oak Ridge Rd.

Orlando FL, 32809

Drop-off will be open as early as 8:30AM, while the program begins sharply at 9AM. The program ends daily at 4:00pm with pick up no later than 4:30PM. Participants must be signed in and out at drop off and pick up. Participants who drive themselves are required to sign themselves in and out. A QR code will be provided at the beginning and end of the day to tie into attendance monitoring – participants will be paid based on their attendance so please ensure you sign in and out each day as your payment is tied to this.

2.)   What to Expect

The PSA will include multiple guest speakers, activities, and workshops to prepare Participants for their programs and get Participants ready for the work field. Lunch and a snack will be provided each day. The dress code for the PSA is casual. Participants can wear casual semi-professional clothing- we request pants with no holes, skirts at arms length, skirts with no slits, tops that have sleeves and collars, and shoes that are safe and comfortable. All the supplies you will need will be provided to you on your first day in a drawstring bag – please plan to and remember to bring this bag back to every day of the PSA. Participants will receive a Summer Youth T-shirts although you are not required to wear it. Cellular devices are prohibited outside of breaks and lunches.

3.)   Important Payment Information

You will be compensated for this week spent together with us – you should expect your weekly payment by the following Friday of the PSA – by Friday, June 9.  This will be the similar pattern from completing one week of your program, then getting your ensuing payment the following Friday. It is very important you understand which track you are in – either Explore/Engage or Experience – as there are different payment methods associated with each.

Experience is paid via direct deposit and through our partnership with ManPower (as in our last email, you should already be onboarded with ManPower and have provided the with direct deposit – or paper check mailing addresses). If you are not onboarded or provided this information yet, you will not get paid.

Explore and Engage track participants will be paid via a Global Cash Card. You will receive this Global Cash Card between the first and second day of the Academy. It is imperative for you to follow the process at the Academy to properly pick up your card and for your parents/guardians to thoroughly review the FAQ document found on our Participant Portal (see Section 4 for more details). You will be asked to sign a document associated with your Global Cash Card confirming you have reviewed the FAQs. This document explains how and where you can use your Card – which is more like a gift card and not a debit card.

4.)   Transportation Concerns

If you are TANF-funded with our program and need transportation from far parts of Orange County to participate in the Power Skills Academy, please contact Jonathan Aleem, Coordinator with the Summer Youth Program, at jaleem@careersourcecf.com with your address. We are working on multiple pick-up locations throughout the County to arrange for those with extreme transportation needs.

5.)   Participant Portal and Other Information

The Portal has now launched and contains additional important information including Frequently Asked Questions (which participants and their parents/guardians should review prior to attending our Program), Consultant contact information, parking details and program site maps, program details including itineraries, and more. The Portal is available at: https://www.careersourcecentralflorida.com/career-seekers/young-adults/summer-youth-program/summer-youth-program-participant-portal/

For Experience track participants, be sure to check your CareerEdge profile/account under the tab “Worksite Assignment” by June 7. Furthermore, for any questions you have, please contact your Consultant.
