Container Arrived in U.S.  On it's Way to Denver ???

So, the way the process works is that once a container ship arrives in the U.S. port, the containers are off-loaded from the vessel and placed in a yard, pending customs clearance at which point it will be placed on a rail carrier and sent on to its destination. In this particular case, the container arrived in Long Beach last Friday (12/2) and I am am STILL (as of 12/10) awaiting confirmation of customs clearance and onward transit to Denver.

Sometimes it takes two weeks. Sometimes it takes five days. I guess not so in this case! Arrrgh. Anyway, the bottom line is that it seems that the soonest we will get the container is early/mid-next week. Once we start to unload it, we will have dealt with our space problem one way or the other and so the deep-discount sale on our "Big-Stuff" will be over. We also always see a nice bump in sales associated with a new container, so our 50% off of everything (EurAsian Interiors merchandise) sale will end as well.

One thing I do know is that the sale continues through this weekend. (12/10-11)

Now, a natural reaction is for folks to wait until the container comes in and then have a look. While this makes perfect sense, I want to be clear that the merchandise that will be in this container will be quite different from the vast majority of what we have now. So, I would suggest if you are in the market for anything specific, give us a call and we'll help you to sort it out. As always though, best to come in and have a quick look around now and then again after our container arrives.

Our container will include pieces along the following lines:

Sideboards/console cabinets - Painted and natural colors
Entry way pieces /hall cabinets -Painted and natural colors
Console Cabinets
Benches / Stools
Shallow Hall Tables (10" deep for that difficult space)
Side Cabinets (Bed or living room)
Coffee tables from old doors
Old Doors
Ceramics
Stone Statuary

New Month

While the end of November was great and December has started out even better, we are still striving to drive revenues (profits be damned!) through the end of the year to help with a contemplated REAL bank refinance (long story. Let me know if you care and I'll fill you in).  So, ESPECIALLY UNTIL OUR CONTAINER ARRIVES, this represents a great buying opportunity.

'Rusty's Big Stuff' Sale

 - Sale Continues through Sunday, Dec. 11 (Guaranteed)

"Rusty Staff?  What da hell kind 'a name is dat? What's wrong witch yo' mama?" - James Brown. That's right THE James Brown when we met in 1983. (Long story. I was his handler when he did a special event for my former Employer, Coors Distributing Company. Stop in and I'll tell you the whole story).

Clearly, what he was alluding to is something that many others have remarked on over the years. My parents gave me a name that sounds like some sort of social disease or at least a variety of E.D. Anyway, I've lived with it, and worse actually-my middle name is John-for my entire life. I suppose its kind of like the Boy Named Sue. Helped me to have a thick skin and sense of Humor.

Ever since I've been making my meager living by selling 'stuff', I've been trying to change the conversation. Always thought about opening a business built around the name Rusty Stuff. Anyway, I"ll be making a small step in that direction by designating specific items as "Rusty's Stuff" and discounting them deeply until I sell them.

Right now, until our next container arrives, my objective is to free up space. So, the bigger (in terms of floor space. Tall doesn't count on its own) pieces will be targeted to move.  Of course, I won' be putting all of them in our newsletter. But, over the next few days, we will put many of them on deep-discount sale, with special tags in the store, and my marking them on our Website (Click on "on Sale" on the top menu bar of our www.decorAsianStyle.com Website. There are about 20 or so items recently added to the sale list). We'll be adding more today. But the best thing is just to come down and see for yourself.

Several examples are included in this e-mail. Have a look but don't forget to look at our website. These discounts are in addition to our sales levels that we are running one weekend at a time and will be in effect until we say they aren't. For now, its one weekend at a time. When they're gone, they're gone. Items must be removed (one way or the other) by Dec. 10. Prices are firm unless multiple items are purchased

Presenting: The Taj Mahal

I hope that you can come in and see this spectacular new arrival-a stunning hand-carved marble miniature of the Taj Mahal, the crown jewel of India. Now, I digress, but if you come in to the store and stay for more than 15 minutes, you are liable to HEAR some Taj Mahal (the blues/roots musician) on our playlist. Back to this gorgeous piece. While it may be a miniature, its not small-41"W  x 41"D. So, the lucky buyer will need a special place to display it. Really, when I first saw this, it sent chills down my spine, reminding me of some of the many very special experiences I have had in India, including seeing the Taj Mahal.  Anyway, this piece really gives truth to what I hear all the time... "Ohhhhhhh my God....This place is just like a museum!"  But, its all for sale!

Layaway - The Power of Saving

Why do we save?  Well, one reason is so that when the opportunity comes along, we can buy great things that we need or want.  Two of our largest recent sales have been on layaway. The folks loved the pieces but simply couldn't afford to lay out the cash for them all at once. So, we worked out a plan that they could live with and put their pieces on Layaway. It's really just like saving if you think about it. That way you can afford the great piece AND you don't have to pay interest. Obviously, the gratification is slightly delayed, but in the end, you'll have a great piece. While we discourage layaways for purchases under $500, we'll work with anyone on just about any budget. You don't have to just "love it" from afar. You can have it. Really! We will work with you!

Another way to look at it. If you are a couple, all you have to do is to NOT go to Sushi Den, Tag, Capital Grill or places like that twice a month, and you can probably save enough to make a layaway payment and have something great that you can appreciate for a lifetime.

Teak Root Tables - Still Have Two Big Ones!

We've  sold  all of our smaller Teak root Coffee tables from our latest shipment, but still have two of the big ones left. If you're looking for a "statement" coffee table, even perhaps for a commercial use, come check these out. They are organic, live-edge, timeless, durable, and exceedingly beautiful. And, while they are not "cheap", because we direct-imports  our prices are a fraction of what they would be in a market such as Santa Fe, Chicago, New York, etc. etc. and, even our own Denver Design Center for that matter.

By "reclaimed", what we mean is that they are from the stumps and root systems left in the ground after Java's old-growth teak forests were logged in the 1970's-90's. In the past few years, villagers have pried these massive pieces of wood out of the ground, and trucked them to Bali, where they are made into amazing pieces of furniture. A custom re-finish is included in the price of every piece. Call for details-price, dimensions, etc. if one  looks to be of interest. But really, I have to say, photos don't come close to doing these pieces justice. So, come on down!

Life's a Bench. Then You Lie Down!

Buddhas and More Buddhas
- " Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most. " -
Gautama Buddha. (This quote coined 'the retailers' lament' by yours truly)

For whatever reason, the Balinese aesethic, when applied to Buddhas, makes magic. That became obvious as we unloaded and unpacked our recent Bali container revealing what is probably our largest and finest collection of Buddhas ever. Standing, sitting, reclining, stone, bronze, terra cotta, wood, etc.; it's an amazing collection, if I do say so myself.

You don't have to be Buddhist to appreciate a Buddha or especially the beauty of the Buddha form in many manifestations. Although I won't get into it here, all of us could likely benefit from some aspects of Buddhist thought, philosophy, and practice. For example, and I'll just say at the outset, this one scares me a little bit:  "The mind is everything. What you think, you become" . And this one seems to be very relevant in this election "silly season":  "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who said it unless it agrees with your reason and common sense". Hey, this is fun! So, here's one more:  "Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, and faithfulness the best relationship"

Standing Buddha in Prayer Pose

Seated Buddha. Always Praying for a good month.

Small and inexpensive as well! It would be kind of odd if you had to be well-to-do to afford a Buddha.

4' (approx.) Seated Buddha. Limestone.

Gold Buddha Head. The Buddha's big ears symbolize his wisdom and compassion.
He hears the sound of the world - hears the cries of suffering beings - and responds.

Bronze Buddha Head. About 2' tall on stand.

Balinese Guardian Figure. The real Deal.

Stoned Again on South Broadway !!!!

Our latest Indonesia/Bali shipment features a large collection of hand-carved, natural-stone pieces. Probably over 40 pieces in all. Fabulous artisanship in timeless and durable pieces at great prices. We hope you'll be able to come down to see them before they walk out the door. Don't worry about getting them to you. We can deliver! A few samples are pictured below.

P.S. To those of you not in the know, the "stoned on South Broadway" reference is a jab at the profusion of marijuana businesses in our vicinity.

Tara And Consort. About 20" tall

If you think our politicians are scary, you should see these guys. When we first uncrated them,
I seriously had flashbacks to the time I was attacked by a cassowary (look that up in your Funk and Wagnells!) in West Papua, New Guinea. Ahhh....So many stories, so little time! Made of Nephrite Jade.
