David Thanassi’s research focuses on understanding strategies used by bacteria to cause disease. He has a particular interest in bacterial virulence factors, understanding how these virulence factors are secreted by the bacteria and how they function to allow bacteria to cause disease. This research approach in his lab is part of the goal to develop novel alternative therapeutic approaches to antibiotics.
