Hello JT,

In this edition, we are sharing important news for New York State artists. The New York State Council on the Arts (NSYCA) is a major funder of art works in the state and it includes individual artists who live in NYS working in media, theater, music, visual arts, photography, dance and more. To apply for an individual artist grant, you need to apply through a fiscal sponsor as artists cannot apply directly. Third World Newsreel acts as a fiscal sponsor for projects that fall within our mission, and if you are thinking of applying through TWN, you must send an email to fiscal_sponsorship@twn.org by June 5th expressing your interest with one line about your project and its status. TWN will send you a questionnaire that will determine your eligibility. Individual artists who applied to NYSCA last year, even if you did not receive funding, cannot re-apply this year. Also, only directors can apply in film and media, no producers. For more information, go to nysca.org and watch NYSCA Program Director Arian Blanco talk about this opportunity on our Vimeo Channel here: https://vimeo.com/showcase/5068611/video/925160272.

We are also thrilled to announce the release of the new film "Power" by TWN Workshop Graduate Yance Ford! "Power" is a documentary about policing in United States and you can watch it on Netflix. Yance will be one of our guest filmmakers at the Fall Evening Seminars, so stay tuned.

Lastly, Third World Newsreel is delighted to announce that it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $30,000 to support our media training programs. This year, NEA is awarding 1,135 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling more than $37 million as part of its second round of fiscal year 2024 grants to numerous organizations in the country.

Don't forget to stay connected with us! Follow us on social media for updates on upcoming film screenings, workshops, and news from the TWN community.
