MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Recognizing our Schools, Teachers and Mothers
|
Can you believe we are one-third of the way through 2021! It is remarkable how quickly the year has progressed.
Murrieta schools are back in session, and I want to recognize the terrific work of our District. Murrieta was one of the first districts in Riverside County to begin reopening. They have navigated the challenges of safely serving families with virtual and onsite options to get children back in the classroom if that's what they want. We are proud of our top-rated schools!
Let's also thank the thousands of parents who, for the past year, have facilitated their children's learning at home, often while juggling the added responsibilities of work and childcare. Your accomplishments are amazing, and now you can take a breath.
And finally, to our graduating class of 2021. This will be a year for the history books. On behalf of the City, I congratulate each and every one of you and applaud your resilience--it will take you far!
Happy Mother's Day on May 9!

Murrieta Start-up Completes $2 Million Seed Round
A cutting-edge medical startup working out of the Murrieta Innovation Center, simplSEQ, has just completed a successful $2 million seed round. Seven companies incubating in the Innovation Center have received major funding in just the last two years, helping to create a major biotech ecosystem right here in our backyard. The funding for simplSEQ shows the investment value of their patent-pending technology that makes genetic testing more efficient and accurate. You can read more about simplSEQ here.
The Murrieta Innovation Center is a medical technology incubator owned by the City of Murrieta and managed by the nonprofit organization, the Murrieta Partnership. The center’s goal is to create a life science hub that brings new healthcare-related startup companies to our region, creating new industries and high-paying job opportunities.

CONSTRUCTION, LANDSCAPING ENTER FINAL PHASE
New Amphitheater Prepares for June Unveiling
Town Square Amphitheater is nearing completion. The final steps are the installation of handrails and landscaping, which includes re-sodding the entire park. The site is currently fenced and will remain so for at least 30 days after the new turf is installed to allow the grass to handle foot traffic. A ribbon-cutting event is being planned for June. Watch our website and social media for details.
City staff has also started to work on the next phase of the Murrieta Veterans Memorial: the Vietnam Wall, paying tribute to this important time in history and further developing Town Square Park.
