Fall is here and the events that come along with this time of year are here as well. Our second annual Trunk or Treat and Dark in the Park will be held at the end of the month (October 29), and it is sure bring out thousands of little ones for safe Halloween fun.

October also signifies Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. The City offers a variety of ways to support this month-long campaign, from the Human Pink Ribbon photo to kick off the month on October 1 to the Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk on October 9. Even Murrieta PD is “going pink” with their pink patch debut and Murrieta Fire & Rescue is raising funds through special breast cancer awareness t-shirts. And if you drive by City Hall at night the first half of the month, it will be lit pink as well. The second half of the month the City Hall lights will be purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is also this in October.

Murrieta Fire & Rescue

Murrieta Fire & Rescue implements auto-dispatch, welcomes new Fire Marshal, and natural disaster information pipeline

Auto-Dispatch for Murrieta Fire & Rescue Implemented

On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 8 a.m., the Murrieta emergency communications center implemented the “auto-dispatch” configuration within the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software for Murrieta Fire & Rescue (MFR) calls for service. This implementation has been in the works since August of 2018, and through partnerships with the Murrieta Information Technology Division and emergency communications professionals, this multi-year project was successfully launched. Within minutes of activation, there was a dramatic decrease in the time needed to dispatch fire department emergency calls.

The auto-dispatch feature will allow emergency response software systems to engage more quickly, and as a result, calls will be dispatched faster than before. When emergency dispatchers receive a 9-1-1 call for service and enter the location address and the service type code, the auto-dispatch feature in the CAD system will engage and automatically select and dispatch Murrieta Fire & Rescue apparatus, as well as activate the fire station tones and simultaneously notify AMR when needed. Murrieta Fire & Rescue strives to implement state-of-the-art technology to serve the community in the most effective manner possible.

Adria Reinertson Selected as Murrieta's New Fire Marshal

After an extensive and competitive recruitment, Murrieta Fire & Rescue is pleased to announce the hiring of Adria Reinertson as Murrieta’s new fire marshal. Reinertson most recently served as the Deputy Fire Marshal with CAL-FIRE/Riverside County Fire and has twenty-five years of experience in community risk reduction. Reinertson was selected as fire marshal after a nearly two-year vacancy. Read the full press release on the City's website.

Natural Disaster Communication Information Pipeline

Both the City and Murrieta Fire & Rescue will use their social media platforms along with the City website and other outreach methods for messaging during a natural disaster, such as a wildfire. Make sure you are following on social media and receiving alerts from the City of Murrieta by visiting the website

Murrieta Police Department

Pink Patch Project and newest Murrieta K9 handler

Pink Patch Project

The Murrieta Police Department is proud to be going PINK this October! For the first time, Murrieta Police Department will be participating in the Pink Patch Project

The Pink Patch Project is an innovative public awareness campaign designed to bring attention to the fight against cancer and to support breast cancer research organizations in combating this devastating disease. Murrieta PD will be fundraising for Michelle’s Place and will culminate at the end of October with a donation.

Michelle’s Place is a local nonprofit organization founded in 2001 to ensure no one faces cancer alone. They rely on the ongoing support of donors, grantors and fundraising efforts to provide free resources to cancer patients and their families. Michelle’s Place offers over 23 different programs more than 51 times a month. All programs and services are free to the community.

To raise funds, the police department designed a pink police shoulder patch that can be purchased at the Murrieta Police Department (2 Town Square, Murrieta, CA 92562) for $10 each.

Welcome to the Newest Murrieta K9 Handler

Congratulations are in order for Officer Troncale for being selected as the newest Murrieta K9 handler. K9 Jerry was chosen to be his partner. K9 Jerry is a 2-year-and-11-month old German shepherd from Germany.

People often ask how many K9 teams the Murrieta Police Department has. The department is slotted for four K9 teams. With the newest addition, they now have three of those four spots filled: K9 Roger, K9 Atlas, and K9 Jerry.

City Streets Get a Makeover

News from the Public Works Team

The City's Public Works team is hard at work to ensure a smooth ride on some of Murrieta's busiest roads. Two of this year's Capital Improvement Projects began this week. The first includes pavement rehabilitation on Murrieta Hot Springs Road between Madison Avenue and Alta Murrieta Drive, and Hancock Avenue between Las Brisas Road South and Murrieta Hot Springs Road. Failed sections of roadway will be repaired and both streets will be overlaid with rubberized hot mix asphalt. Minor pavement rehabilitation will occur on Jackson Avenue at the Warm Springs Creek bridge. Other minor street improvements will occur on Juniper Street and Franklin Street.

Another project to help the flow of traffic began at Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Madison Avenue. The City will be making median improvements at that intersection by modifying the existing raised medians and extending the dual left-turn pockets for increased traffic flow to alleviate traffic congestion.

For more information about this year's Capital Improvement Plan, visit the City's website.
