Not unlike the movie Groundhog Day, we are expecting yet another plowing event on the morning of garbage pickup. Coincidentally the majority of snow days during the last two years have fallen on garbage day to the dismay of all of us plow drivers and mail delivery personnel.
When garbage cans are placed in the road, past the mail box, our plows are unable to clean the area in front of the mailbox. The remaining snow then becomes a burden to both the homeowner and the post office personnel.
**One simple change can improve the situation—please keep garbage cans on the driveway, not the road, and slightly behind the mailbox until the majority of the snow is removed.
I know many of you are likely frustrated with the backup of garbage from the result of last week’s cancellation. It’s been a tough week for many. We will get through it!
Also, you may have noticed that with these cold temps, the driveways that pushed their snow across the road now have hardpacked, icy areas. Road salt’s effectiveness is reduced substantially below 12 degrees, so these areas will stay until there is a warmup.
**Please avoid putting snow in the road, hoping the plow will remove it, as it can create potentially dangerous driving conditions for others that you can be held liable for.
