The Columbia Swim League Board met last week to discuss the 2020 season. Several issues, including DHEC guidelines that recommend 4 swimmers per lane, basic social distancing protocol that would be impossible on a crowded pool deck, and the fact that specific procedures could not be created because almost all of the CSL host pools are different configurations, led to a vote to cancel the 2020 CSL season. The consensus during the meeting was that each club would field a swim team based on their specific options and procedures.
Due to social distancing requirements imposed by DHEC, our coaches will not able to be in the water teaching basic swimming skills to beginners. Although development of the very youngest swimmers has always been at the core of our program, the unusual circumstances of the pandemic will make this impossible this year. So we are not accepting beginner swimmers 6 and under. All swim team members must be able to swim a complete length of the pool with stopping, standing, grabbing lane lines, etc.
We all know you "Can’t Sink a Shark," and Murraywood would still like to have a swim team! Our summer season will begin on Monday, June 1 and our season will now extend through July. Online registration will begin on Monday, May 18th. This year registration will be all online in order to practice social distancing and cut down on paperwork swapping. Please sign up as soon as possible to ensure a spot for your swimmer(s).
We are so excited that you have chosen us as your summer swim family! Once you have signed up with us, you will be placed on an email list. Additional info will be sent out to that list frequently regarding practices schedules, meet info, parent meetings, equipment purchases, etc.
See you at the pool!
