We miss seeing you in person SO MUCH!! But as we continue to navigate the world of social distancing and virtual programming, check out our latest update for current and upcoming virtual program offerings with your TR Team! We are relying heavily on our social media outlets (links below) and zoom programs to stay connected.
We welcome your new ideas, ways to make Therapeutic Recreation here in Chattanooga better, and any overall feedback. Keep in mind, plans may change or get moved around and new programs will continue to be added, so please review each newsletter to find potential changes!

OUR MISSION: The Therapeutic Recreation Division of the Chattanooga Youth and Family Development Department seeks to provide leisure and recreation opportunities for citizens of all abilities. We serve both youth and adults with physical, cognitive, and/or emotional disabilities. Through our programs, education and advocacy, individuals can build confidence, improve physical and cognitive abilities, expand support and social networks; and enhance overall quality of life.

Zoom in with the UTC Occupational Therapy Program - Fall Program Series
Join the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Occupational Therapy program to participate in a unique fall series of diverse virtual programs with special interest group themes! Keep reading to see if anything catches your eye from the fun topics! TR Staff will be present at each zoom meeting and available to answer any questions you may have. Fall Scavenger Hunt Crafts - Oct. 21st
|
WHAT: Take advantage of the gorgeous fall weather to gather supplies for this interactive fall craft session! Bring your findings to the meeting to be led in artsy, woodsy craft creations! Family involvement encouraged as needed.
*The scavenger hunt list will be sent to those who register and will need to be completed by participants prior to the zoom meeting.

WHAT: Join the OT team for this exciting exercise opportunity to learn more about yoga! During this interactive class, you will join in basic chair yoga poses that you can then do on your own. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn and practice the benefits of yoga, and have something new to add to your current exercise routine! Supplies Needed: Sturdy chair, athletic clothes, and water bottle.

WHAT: Join us for a make your own pizza party! We will talk about the basics of making pizza, enjoy friends, play games and share a virtual pizza dinner. Come prepared to share your favorite toppings and bring your appetite. Details of needed supplies (and options) listed below.

Halloween Party - Oct. 29th
|
WHAT: Join us for a Halloween Party! This night will be filled with pumpkin decorating, dancing, costumes and Halloween fun. Participants are encouraged to dress up and bring a pumpkin (or paper) of any size to decorate. A supply list will be sent to those who register!

Thankful Arts & Crafts - Nov. 4th
|
WHAT: Join us and create your own Thankful Turkey! This is going to be a gobble good time filled with crafts, friends, and lots of fun. Everyone will have an opportunity to share what they are thankful for, create their own holiday decoration and meet some new friends. A supply list will be sent to those who register!

Girls Night In - Nov. 11th
|
WHAT: Girl’s Night In will give the atmosphere of a sleepover with all of your best friends just via Zoom! We will be doing all things sleepover, from girl talk to making lip gloss and lip scrub. So bring your blankets, pillows, and wear your favorite pajamas for a virtual slumber party!! A supply list will be sent to those who register!
WHO: Girls ages 12 and older with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.

Zoomin' with the Zoo
In partnership with the Chattanooga Zoo

WHAT: Go behind the scenes at the Chattanooga Zoo in this two part monthly interactive zoom series featuring new exhibits and animals, Zoo Keeper chats, animal region exploration, and fun facts from Zoo staff! This is a great way to connect with other animal lovers from the comfort of your own home! TR staff will also be present in these meetings.

Boo in the Zoo Dreamnight - Oct. 14th
|
WHAT: Dreamnight is a free, open house event for individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or special needs and their families or caretakers. Dreamnight offers a VIP Zoo visit that acknowledges and accommodates the unique circumstances that may limit relaxing outings for these families during normal operating hours. This event will be operating in accordance with CDC recommended guidelines.
WHO: Individuals of all ages with special needs and/or terminal illnesses and their families or caretakers.
WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 14th
TIME: 5:00 - 8:00PM
WHERE: The Chattanooga Zoo in Warner Park

Adaptive Mt. Biking Clinic NEW!
Chattanooga, TN - Oct. 31st
|
WHAT: An intro to Adaptive Mt. Biking Clinic hosted by Catalyst Sports and in partnership with Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center. Are you ready to get off the road and into nature? Come ride with us, where trained experts will fit a bike to your needs and give you access to the exciting world of mountain biking! Reserve a time slot (1.5 hours) and come ride on the trails. Pre-Registration required. Spaces are limited to respect COVID guidelines so please only register for one time slot. VOLUNTEERS: please register for any time slots you are available. Previous mountain bike experience required. Volunteer training will be Friday, October 30th from 6-8pm.

How Do I Connect on Zoom??
If you are not familiar with Zoom, please click on the zoom support link for comprehensive information on how to connect with any device. Please check it out for more in depth and device-specific instruction.
Before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you will need to download the Zoom app. This can be done from the Zoom Download Center. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link. You can also join a test meeting to familiarize yourself with Zoom.
*You will not need a meeting ID to join, just your name.
