More Trails Enhance the 2024 Full Marathon Course

We’re excited to announce the addition of two recently developed trails to enhance this year’s full marathon course.

Additional paved trails in Kimberly and Appleton will take you along more of our community's trail system and waterfront. After all, who doesn't love a good view! New sections include the Papermill Run Trail in Kimberly that will take you below Washington Street and along a stretch of the Fox River and additional trail distance in Appleton on the wooded Telulah Park trail winding down to the Fox River before rejoining Riverheath Way. In addition, a section in Darboy has been adjusted to accommodate the additional trail distance.

The adjustments only impact portions of the course used by full and relay marathoners. The half marathon course, start and finish lines remains unchanged.

The enhanced areas are circled on the map below. The course has been certified by USATF, continuing our tradition of being a Boston Qualifier and giving you confidence in a well-planned course.

We hope you enjoy the views these new trail sections will bring!

Why make the changes?

Our goals in making the changes were to take in recently developed trails to showcase more of our local trail system and waterfront and reduce some street impacts for the safety of participants and the convenience of residents.

What is the course change in Kimberly?

With the new course, you will continue west on Prospect Street all the way to Washington Street where to will pick up the new Papermill Run Trail that goes beneath the Washington Street Bridge and along the river. It exits onto Papermill Run, where you will continue until turning right onto Rivers Edge Drive before turning right into Sunset Park on the trail. It then follows the same path on the trail in Sunset Park. Additionally, a neighborhood section has been shortened for distance.

How is the course different near Telulah Park in Appleton?

Previously, the course went past Telulah Park. Now, runners will turn right onto the path into the park toward the pavilion and continue onto the trail as it descends to the river before turning west. You will stay along the river past the Marriott and Poplar Hall.

The trail then exits between two of the Riverheath buildings to place you back onto Riverheath Way where they will continue south before picking up the Newberry Trail again.

Is the course still a Boston Qualifier?

Yes! The course has been certified by local certifier David Moore and the USATF, maintaining our Boston Qualifier status.

The certification code is WI24022DM.

What advice do you have for returning runners who are familiar with the previous course?

Spend some time with our new maps prior to race weekend. If you are local, add some of the new portions to your upcoming runs. On race day, give your attention to the marked course and volunteers who will help you on your way.

Does the elevation change?

Not really. The areas that were impacted previously had inclines or declines that remain very similar in the adjusted course. The overall elevation of the race remains very similar to prior years.
