futureFUTURE OF WORK MEETUPS

California Community Colleges, in partnership with California Forward and the California Economic Summit, is holding Future of Work MeetUps across the state and inviting workforce development stakeholders to share observations about the future of work, learn about model workforce development practices and discuss strategies helpful to employers and workers.

Registration is open for the March 23 meetup hosted by the North Central Counties Consortium in Marysville at the  Yuba County One Stop, 1114 Yuba St. This meetup will have as its theme:  How will technology, automation, and the changing nature of work impact the essential skills and occupations needed in our region?

If you can't make this one, there are a number of other meetups taking place in the coming months. Here is the full list of upcoming meetups.

A significant component of the Future of Work MeetUps will be a discussion of workers' barriers to upskilling and attaining industry-valued credentials. To that end, please share this link with your employer networks  so they and their employees can communicate their experiences. Share this link with workers  who want to give us feedback on their barriers to upskilling.

spotlightSPOTLIGHT ON INNOVATION: MENDOCINO-LAKE
ADULT & CAREER EDUCATION

For many years, adult schools located within the Mendocino Lake Adult & Career Education (ML ACE) consortium and Mendocino College have provided English as a second language (ESL) instruction independent of one another. Prior to Assembly Bill 86/104, the adult schools and the community college competed for students. To change that relationship and find a way to work together to better serve adult learners in the region, the consortium hosted a series of AB86 summits that emphasized collaboration amongst the consortium's members. The summits focused on different program areas, including ESL, high school equivalency and allied health career technical education (CTE). The ESL summits brought together adult school and community college faculty to discuss ESL levels and curriculum, as well as the challenges associated with serving students in remote areas.
