My vote is to have it serve as part of Houston's entrepreneurial legacy and make it functional and profitable. Houston is already "Business Start-Up Capital of the World," so let's convert The Dome into a core facility for just that: "the place to go when you're starting a business in Houston." (Or Texas or the USA!)
In The Dome's 350,000 square feet, let's combine WiFi hot spots, areas for co-working, trendy cafes, start-up consultants, a big bank, marketing, sales training, a smaller bank or two, executive suite, publicist, brew pub, coffee shop, credit union, angel investors, lenders, real estate agency, convenience store, drug store, office supplies and furniture outlet, a business incubator/accelerator and make another portion into extended-stay residences so out-of-towners have accommodations while starting, expanding, relocating, acquiring a business in Houston and still another part into a residency business incubator - first in the world - just as the Astrodome was in its time.
The astute "powers-that-be" realize it's our small businesses that drive our economy. Let's make it easier to get a business started in Houston than any other place in the world, eh?
"Business start-up" is an industry for Houston that brings in outside money. Let's make it efficient, convenient and effective. What's your opinion? Send me an email cdkring@servicesca.org, even if it's just an "Amen, Brother."
And, perchance, should you be a business consultant, attorney, CPA, realtor, marketing company, bookkeeper, banker, insurance underwriter, seed fund/venture capital fund administrator or any other support entity serving in-bound/start-up/emerging business clients and choose to have a presence in this vibrant entrepreneurial hub, send me that information, too, and I'll go show it to the "Dome Destiny Decision Makers."
Should you have an interest in conducting business in the Dome give me a call, connect on Skype, send an email or come have breakfast with me any Wednesday morning.
I'll be at Corner Bakery Cafe, 9311 Katy Freeway (I-10 W at Echo Lane), 7:30 to 8:30 AM and we'll use this meeting as the opportunity to meet personally, face-to-face, and you'll share what services you want to provide.
Be sure to let me know you're coming.
Successful regard$,

A nickel gets you on Coney Island's Switchback Railway, a new amusement park ride carrying passengers on an undulating railroad track at up to 6 mph, running a length of 600 feet and an overall drop of 43 feet. America's first roller coaster will be a hit, spawning ever-bigger thrills.

"Recognized as an industry leader and pioneer in small business incubation" by the National Business Incubation Association and as "One of Houston's core entrepreneurial groups" by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and "Ranked the #1 new business development group in Houston" by Houston Proud!
We are a not-for-profit cooperative association of independent
business owners for market expansion, business development,
entrepreneurial education and professional growth.
We were created from a specific and priority research project of the Houston Chamber of Commerce in the late 1970's on the importance of start-up and emerging small businesses. We brought you Houston's first small business incubator, which became Texas' oldest, the first co-working space in Texas, the first Womens Business Center in the United States and the first Residency Incubator and first Virtual Accelerator Program in the World. Our clients have ranged from pre-start-ups to the largest companies in the United States! We clearly demonstrated that entrepreneurship could be taught, that business plans were not a requirement for a successful business, that women were starting businesses at a faster rate than men and that entrepreneurship was color-blind and gender neutral. Our start-ups have won virtually every award in Houston for business growth, some nationally, some even internationally and some of our established client companies are now household names in Houston. We operate entirely without grants, gifts, donations or public funding. We don't have our hand out and are NOT your tax dollars at work! We are totally self-sufficient!
We grow companies, build careers and advance ideas!
May we assist with yours?
