Worship 10 a.m.

Parkside Lutheran Church

Rediscovering the radical love of Jesus.

Gathering All. Serving All. Caring for All.

Many Are Called, Few Are Chosen

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians 4:8

This Sunday, October 11, Vicar Jake James, who is interning with our church for the academic year, will be preaching. By embracing and supporting his formation as a pastor, Parkside is living out our mission and multiplying our impact. Please give the vicar a warm welcome.

Vicar Jake will also lead Adult Bible Study right after worship. For the next few weeks we will be looking at what the Book of Revelation has to say. (It isn’t necessarily what you think.) Child care is available.

Visit the Parkside Lutheran Church website for this Sunday's worship bulletin.

Finding Our Way

Dear Church,

This past Sunday we had confirmation class. Our middle schoolers joined in Bible Study, shared life updates over pizza, participated in a Bible scavenger hunt, and then they marched in place.

While techno dance music played, they were blindfolded and had to attempt to march in a one-foot-by-one-foot square. The timer was set for 60 seconds, but almost immediately they began to wander. When we lose our sight, everything goes off balance, and marching in place becomes an almost impossible task. You don't have to play this game to know how this feels. When have you felt as though you lost your way? What helped you get back on track?

In addition to lots of giggles, the kids shared that family, friends, and mentors have helped them in the past. I then challenged them to consider that the love of God we receive through church, Scripture, and the sacraments can help us find our way. In this community our goal is not to remain stagnant but, together, to love God and neighbor in response to the gift of God's grace.

When has faith been a resource for you? How might we share the Spirit's loving presence with others?

This Sunday we will read together Psalm 23.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures;

he leads me beside still waters;

he restores my soul.

He leads me in right paths

for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD

my whole life long.

May the words remind us we are never alone, and that even when we feel blindfolded, love, grace, and mercy shall always follow us.

Peace,

Pastor Jeremiah
