Women's History Month - It's not over yet . . .

Thank you for celebrating with us on March 15 as we recognized the 35th anniversary of the Greater Grand Rapids Women's History Council! Special thanks to our speaker, Jo Ellyn Clarey and to Kent County Commissioners Michelle McCloud and Carol Hennessy, Grand Rapids City Commissioners Lisa Knight and Milinda Ysasi, Judge Sara Smolenski, GR School Board Secretary Katherine Downes Lewis, and Library Commissioner Kristin Kopec who all joined us for the festivities. We were also pleased to welcome elective office pioneers, Carol Kooistra, Mary Alice Williams, and Vernis Schad. If you missed the event, check out this coverage.

Kutsche Office of Local History Roundtable, March 22, 2023, 1 to 8:00 p.m, GVSU Pew Campus downtown, featuring keynote at 6:00 p.m. by Dr. Delia Fernández-Jones on migration, placemaking, and activism among Grand Rapids' Latino communities. Details.

GGRWHC Board member, Dr. Andrea Riley-Mukavetz, joins other experts to present GR Stories -The Grand River Burial Mounds, a free program to learn more about indigenous perspectives on the Norton Mounds. March 25, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the GR Public Musem's Meijer Theater.

Elizabeth Chamberlain, Phd., adjunct professor of history at Aquinas College, will examine the late twentieth-century activism of the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters; the ways in which communities perceived their social justice activism; and the opposition they faced.
