MORE TO DO, MORE TO COME!
Welcome from Ricky Singh
Dear Lab Families,

I want to thank all of the current Lab 8th grade families that attended our first two Information Sessions in October. We had a great turnout and I was so encouraged by the energy in the room.

As many of you might have known, this year we were able to bring on two important people to our Leadership Team, Merisha Leak , Director of Outreach and Angela Menon , Middle School Guidance Counselor/Director of High School Transition. We have been working closely together as an Upper School Planning Team to map out recruitment events both within Uptown and in surrounding communities that will give us an opportunity to share about what it means to be a Lab student. As we finalize our event calendar, we will be reaching out for Lab Parent Ambassadors and Lab Student Ambassadors to participate at these events and share more about their experience with Charlotte Lab School.

We are getting close to finalizing a location for Upper School and have honed in on the surrounding areas of Uptown and Elizabeth as the two main areas of interest. More news to come as things develop!

This past Friday, Charlotte Lab School had the honor of co-hosting a breakfast panel with Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Education:  Redefining High School: Preparing the Next Generation of Career Seekers.  This panel was moderated by Dr. Corliss Thompson, Professor at Northeastern University and had the following panelists:

  • Tom Murray, CEO of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and Chairman of Charlotte Lab Schools Board
  • Dr. Mary Moss, Founder and Executive Director of Charlotte Lab Schools
  • Dr. Cheryl Richards, CEO & Founding Regional Dean of Northeastern University - Charlotte
  • Danielle Frazier, President & CEO of Charlotte Works
  • Kevin Loux, Community Impact Director of Leading on Opportunity
  • Kathryn Black, Charlotte Private Sector Community Engagement at Bank of America

We want to thank all the panelists, and those that attended in-person/livestream for this event. It was truly a great opportunity to see both current and potentially new partners for Charlotte Lab Upper School come together.

As mentioned in our information session, we will be launching some of the task forces and committees we originally introduced in the late Spring of 2019:

Task Forces:
Athletics Task Force
Extracurricular Programming Task Force
Partnerships Task Force

Committees:
Hiring Committee
Family Recruitment Committee
Wellness Committee

Find out more information about the goal of each Task Force and Committee here along with the first meeting dates. Sign up here to reserve your spot! We are going to try to accommodate virtual participation as well but would prefer those interested to attend the first meeting in person. A follow-up email will be sent with more details once you sign up.

Our first meeting for both task forces and committees will be about the goal that is set and an opportunity for us to all get more acquainted!l

For those that might have missed our first two Information Sessions, our next Information Session is on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Charlotte Lab Middle School. We are looking forward to seeing more 8th grade families and answering any questions that come up.

Thank you all!
