MCFD Fire Prevention:

Take Steps to Avoid Holiday Cooking Fires

As Fire Prevention Month concludes and the holidays approach, Morehead City Fire-EMS would like to share cooking safety tips for turkey fryers and inside the kitchen. While turkey fryers are a popular option around the holidays, they can pose severe safety hazards. Follow the proper protocol to ensure you don't have a fire in lieu of your holiday meal.

This year's National Fire Protection Association's Fire Prevention Week theme was "Cooking Safety Starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention."

Remember, if you have a fire, call 9-1-1 and Morehead City Fire-EMS will respond quickly to help you in your time of need.

Watch our video above for turkey fryer and kitchen fire safety tips.

MCFD and Auxiliary Raise Funds

October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, the Morehead City Fire-EMS Auxiliary and Morehead City Fire-EMS raised funds for a valued member of our community who was recently diagnosed and is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

On October 26th, a check was presented to this individual for $6,174.30. This amount was raised through t-shirt sales and generous donations from the community. In addition to MCFD wearing breast cancer awareness shirts throughout this month, the Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores and Western Carteret fire-EMS departments wore "department supporter" shirts with the same logo, and the Beaufort Fire Department contributed to the cause. Pink shirts were available for sale to the public online in advance and at the NC Seafood Festival, where they quickly sold out.

Thank you to the Carteret County community for being a part of our mission to support this individual! You can view photos of the various departments in their t-shirts here.

NC Seafood Festival a Success

The 37th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival was held October 6th-8th in downtown Morehead City, and drew large crowds to the area.

Thank you to Morehead City Police, Fire-EMS, Public Services and Parks and Recreation employees for their role in making this popular event possible!
