Flashlights, Food, and Fun!

Get ready, MoVal! Our fourth annual Adult Flashlight Egg Scramble takes place on Saturday, April 4, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Lasselle Sports Park, located at 17155 Lasselle Street.

This 18-and-over event will feature a live DJ, great food, and exciting prizes. We’ll turn off the lights and hide 13,000 eggs filled with candy all across the park, and you may even find a “Golden Ticket” for a chance to win game systems, an HDTV, gift cards, and more!

The egg hunt will happen in the dark, so be sure to bring your flashlight!

Registration is now open and limited to the first 1,000 participants. Sign up by Wednesday, April 1, or until the event sells out. The entry fee is $20 per resident and $26 per non-resident.

Shockingly Easy Waste Disposal

Many products found in your home are considered hazardous substances. The City offers FREE collection events for you to dispose of these products safely and responsibly.

Due to their chemical makeup, certain items can poison, corrode, explode, or ignite easily if not handled properly. As such, they are considered to be household hazardous waste (HHW) and must be disposed of properly. It is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste in the trash, down storm drains, or onto the ground.

Our next FREE Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Collection Event is happening on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources Office, located at 14310 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley.

This event is open for Moreno Valley and Riverside County residents only, and you may be asked to prove residency via a driver’s license or utility bill. The maximum amount is 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle, per trip.

Items not accepted include explosives, radioactive waste, leaking containers, commercial waste, or waste from non-profit organizations.

Curious About Government Operations?

The City of Moreno Valley is now accepting applications for the third cohort of the Citizens’ Academy, a six-week civic engagement program, running from June 10 through July 15, designed to give residents and business owners a deeper understanding of City operations.

The Citizens’ Academy provides hands-on opportunities to learn about City operations through department presentations, behind-the-scenes facility tours, interactive demonstrations, and engaging Q&A sessions with City staff and leadership.

The program is free and includes food and refreshments at each session. It is funded through the Moreno Valley Community Foundation. Space is limited to 20 participants. Applicants must be 18 years or older and must reside in or own a business in the City of Moreno Valley.

Applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis based on application submission date. Participants will be notified via email in mid-May. Applicants not selected will have the option to join a waiting list for future cohorts.

Pet of the Week: Beau

Our Pet of the Week is Beau, a one-year-old male Redbone Hound mix.

Beau may be a bit too large to fit in an Easter basket, but he’ll fit right in with any family. This sweet pup can’t resist showing affection. He is great at playing fetch and already knows how to “sit” and “shake.” This floppy-eared, happy, hopping hound would be a great addition to any family.

If you would like to make Beau, or any pet from the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, part of your family, please call 951.413.3790 or visit moval.org/pets.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is located at 14041 Elsworth Street in Moreno Valley.

Note: Our featured pets tend to get adopted very quickly when they are shared in our newsletter and on social media. If they have already been adopted when you inquire, please consider one of the other loving pets in the shelter who are also looking for their forever homes.
