How to Stay Safe from Fire Danger this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and as Moreno Valley families gather to cook a delicious holiday feast, it's crucial to recognize potential safety hazards in the kitchen.

Here are a few tips on how to stay safe this Thanksgiving:

  • Make sure your smoke alarm has fresh batteries. If you need a smoke alarm, get one for free at Moreno Valley City Hall through our SAFER program.
  • Children must always be at least three feet away from the stove.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher near the kitchen, and be sure to keep it at least 10 feet away from the stove on the exit side of the kitchen.
  • If your clothing should catch fire, immediately stop, drop, and roll to extinguish the flames.
  • Keep pot handles on the stove pointing to the back and always watch young children in the kitchen.

Pet of the Week: Ruby

Our Pet of the Week is Ruby, a sweet two-year-old Siberian Husky. Rambunctious Ruby has that classic Husky personality, which means she loves to play, go on walks, and give lots and lots of love! She's excellent with kids and other dogs and would be a fantastic addition to any Moreno Valley family.

If you would like to make Ruby or any pet from the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter part of your family, please contact the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter at 951.413.3790 or visit www.moval.org/pets.
