Stay Safe During the Holidays with These

Helpful Tips

The holidays are here, and as you cozy up in front of a fireplace or decorate your tree, it's important to recognize fire hazards.

Here are a few tips from CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department to stay safe as temperatures drop:

  • Do not leave lit candles unattended or place them near flammable materials.
  • Ensure holiday lights are free of cracks, frays, or damaged plugs.
  • Do not overload electrical outlets.
  • Ensure pot handles and electrical cords are out of children's reach.
  • Be sure to have working smoke alarms.
  • If you need a new smoke alarm, get one for free at City Hall through the SAFER program.
  • Ensure fireplaces are free of cracks, blockages, or creosote build-up.
  • Always use a fire screen on fireplaces.

Stay "In the Know" During an Emergency With Alert MoVal

Did you know Moreno Valley has its own emergency alert system?

In this episode of Know MoVal, we feature Alert MoVal, which rapidly sends notifications to all residents and businesses in an affected area in the event of an emergency or disaster. Registrants can choose to receive notifications through their landline, mobile device, text/SMS message, and/or email.

With Alert MoVal, you will be the first to know when a disaster or emergency strikes!

Alert MoVal messages are highly infrequent and the City only utilizes the system to broadcast emergency information.
