Mayor Reveals Remarkable Statistics in Annual
"State of the City" Address
If it seems like our local economy is humming, it's not your imagination. At the City's annual State of the City Address this week, Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez revealed some remarkable statistics: In just the past six years, approximately 20,000 new jobs have been added to the MoVal economy, and our employment rate stands at 96 percent!

"These are 20-thousand opportunities for residents to escape hours of stop-and-go freeway traffic commuting to work," Mayor Gutierrez said. "Instead, by working close to home, they get to spend all the time and money they save enjoying the lives and families and community they’ve created here in Moreno Valley."

Gutierrez added that Moreno Valley continues to be an attractive location for business investors. He noted that, in the past year, developers have chosen to invest more than $400 million in new Moreno Valley business and construction projects. And applications for business licenses increased by eight percent. Moreno Valley is now home to roughly 4,500 businesses.
Be CERTain of Your Ability to
Respond to an Emergency
In the event of a disaster, like a massive earthquake, professional first-responders will be focused on the biggest threats to public safety. But with some free basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training , just about anyone can be ready to help themselves and neighbors until the professionals can arrive.

The Office of Emergency Management provides Moreno Valley residents with three days of CERT training in both English and Spanish. Here, a Spanish-speaking resident learns how to use a fire extinguisher at a recent training.
