Asking residents to set aside their responsibilities and come to City Hall to attend a public meeting might draw 10 or 20 people. But when the City brought the meeting to residents in their homes or cars via the recent Telephone Town Hall Meeting, as many as 2,200 took part for some or all of the hour-long public-input event.
Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley, was able to directly answer questions from about 20 residents, while many more left recorded versions of their questions, to which staff are busy responding.
"Telephone Town Hall Meeting lets people get involved who don’t usually have time to attend a meeting at City Hall," explained Mayor Gutierrez. "Without us reaching out to them in their homes or cars, their voices might never be heard."
